Hi,
I want to listen to mp3 in my car.
Sorry, I am a bit clueless on this, but am I buying a CD player and using normal blank CDs but with mp3 tracks copied onto them. Then just checking that the CD player is compatible to play mp3s?
Or am I completely misunderstanding this?!?!
And if I am right, any suggestions on the cheapest place to purchase, please? I don't really want to pay more than about £50.00. Another poster has kindly recommended one for about that, but being a tight git, I was wondering if that's the best out there....
Thanks in advance.
Duncan

Hi,
Yes just make sure the CD player is MP3 compatible - If you have an older car/stereo with a tape player (I do), you can get one of those tape adaptor type things that have a jackplug on one end and a 'dummy' cassette which goes into the player - you can plug the MP3 player directly into this (this is what we do and it works great).
Not sure about prices and availability on the car stereos - sorry,

MP3 Car stereos are coming down in price now......can pick quite good priced units up.
One you have the MP3 fitted in the car you create a ISO disc and copy the .MP3's to it.
You can get many albums onto a MP3 disc....thus taking away the need for a multi-changer.0 -
Thanks for that - just what I thought. I have actually bought one of those adapters, but it doesn't work in the car I drive to work. Does work in my wife's car though, so not a total waste. That's why I want to go down the route of buying a CD/MP3 player for the car.
Anyway, looks like I'm barking up the right tree, then!
Thanks.

We are also looking to buy a cd stereo that plays mp3s as my OH is going on a 7 month course 200 miles away and so will be doing a lot of driving coming home every other weekend. There's one for £49.99 in Argos sale. We're going to get it tomorrow so hopefully it'll be ok. Hope this helps.Murphy's No More Pies Club Member No. 680

You can buy fm modulators on ebay that plug into a cig lighter you can then plug in whatever device you want into this and it will come through on the car radio in stereo. You can plug in any mp3 player dvd player even portable usb drives as it wiil play them all.
You can have just a basic car stereo and anything can be played through it.
The one I bought had good stereo seperation and far better than a casette adaptor.
Type in fm modulator to ebay and have a look.0 -
A bit beyond the £50 budget at £136 but JVC do an in-car unit which will play MP3 files on a 4700Mb DVDR disk as well as 700Mb CDR disks:

A bit like having a mini iPod on each disk..
I don't have one yet but it is on the list...
Thanks

I bought an H&B unit about 6months to a year ago, it has a built in SD memory card slot, and USB port, aswell as being able to play MP3 CD's. If your MP3 player can take SD cards as mine can, you'll find it ideal.
Here are the details from the H&B website http://www.hb-direct.co.uk/EN/P_68.html
you can get the H&B unit from
PIXmania http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/s_action/search/index.html £96
EBuyer http://www.ebuyer.co.uk/UK/product/92077 £77.91
Gadgets Quick http://test.gadgetsquick.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=93&osCsid=49d3926b7973f928bdf9d48334f43e64 £74.89
I got mine from webspecialoffers.com, but they seem to have shut down temporarily.
good luck with your searc
