If I got on the right site they seem to have so many pretty hotels! I think 5k is still a good deal too, would that be a Spring wedding?
I saw a thing for getting married at Chatsworth the other day, how amazing would that be?! Didn't want to ruin the idea by looking at prices though.
Saved the details for the Travelodges for when I get home tonight, worst part is keeping it a secret from OH! I think I managed 27 hours before telling OH about Ribblesdale.0 -
Morning all!
Phew, since reading your first post this morning Dinah I've been fighting with the Travelodge website (it's really annoying how you can only see a week at a time!) to try and find something reasonably close so that we're not going to turn it into an expensive weekend with all the travel! Ended up with a £19 night in Edinburgh on Thurs 11th Feb (my birthday's the 12th but obviously that weekend is Valentine's so never really any bargains to be had there!) Anyway I'm pretty pleased with that. Dinah I love Leeds, would happily live there! Cinny, sounds like a lovely magical mystery tour for OH's bday, have you booked it?
Dinah, well done on the 3lbs loss! I seem to be trickling at 1lb per week but it's steady I suppose.
Wedding. Hmm. Would be very romantic and whirlwind to have it this November. But it puts all your plans to pot doesn't it? How would you feel about using up most of your house deposit (presumably that's where it would come from) and more or less starting again with that, then living with your parents after you're married? I don't want to put you on a downer and the place looks lovely, but I just think that the same offers will be out for next November and you'll be in more of a position to make the most of them then...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Lol you're as good at keeping secrets as my mum!
Chatsworth would be amazing mind. The website is www.solbergehall.co.uk, is that the one you were looking at? Would be hoping for next September, give us a full year to plan, arrange, get excited, and work out how to handle the Irish mammy. Need to go look at lots of places to get the best deal and a good location.
So NIM is pitching to his boss to help fund a second degree at his personel review tomorrow. It's nearly 4k over 3 years, but would up his earning potential and give him more skills. Even if his boss won't help we think we're going to commit to it anyway. It's likely his dad might help if mentioned as well a little bit if we asked in a non-direct way. It's a degree in computing and statistics with the OU, and he needs to enroll by the 11th September to start in October. The idea is he has say 2 or 3 evenings a week studying, and during those evenings I paint. This would definitely restrict our extra money making, but we are nearly out of things to ebay anyway, and long term it would hugely increase the money we bring in.... I'll worry about the house deposit later! With a bit of luck all the extra painting might bring in some money anyway!
Have the form to send off today for the one day business start up course next week for NIM and I. Both of us have the day booked off already.
We need to give serious consideration to if we need two cars. We seem to need them both less than 5 days a month, and if we went down from 2 cars to 1 car we would save around £225 per month, which is a lot of money. I feel that for that kind of saving we could do bus journeys, or at worst a taxi, or just suffer a bit of inconvenience. If we were saving this much extra this would pretty much completely mitigate the loss of extra earnings by NIM starting the degree. If I have to work late he could always stay at work an extra hour and do his uni studies in peace, and it wouldn't be an issue. We need to talk about this in the next few weeks though as it needs to be mostly NIMs decision since it would be his car that goes, I need mine for work.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Which Edinburgh one are you in Tete? We're going to one in October so if its the same one I'll report back!
No I'm on completely the same page as you Tete. I would rather wait a bit, plus I think fewer people could come at such short notice. And I want to plan and come up with some ways to make it less generic, which we'd struggle with if we did it in just 3 months. I went back to their website and the 80 guests for £5k next year looks like a good offer too, although the evening buffet is more expensive, think we need to go down and take a look and see what deal they could do for us. Want to see the place in Yarm too though. We have our first wedding fayre this Sunday, I'm dreading it!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Shandwick Place, doesn't look too far from the centre and look a lot nicer on the outside than the Central one, they're all the same really though aren't they?No I'm on completely the same page as you Tete. I would rather wait a bit
And plus if you do it that soon it'll all be over in a flash. And I agree about personalising it, I think you'd need to. I'm sure I've seen a few of those 'wedding in a box' type offers though when I've been looking at venues for work. Is the place in Yarm Judges? (Don't know if it used to be a stables or not!) - my friend got married there last year and it was lovely. Yeah, wedding fayres sound scary!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
We're staying in West End, I don't think yours existed when we booked!
Judges is on the list, but I think its a different one that caught our eye. Could be wrong though, I'm starting to get cross eyed with them all!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I bet! Yeah I think that hotel's a new one, it's at the end of Princes Street opposite the Castle, but I bet we end up with a view of the car park!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Doesn't really matter for £12 a night, yours seems to be in an amazing location.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Tete - I think my brother might have stayed in that one! Most Travelodges are fine though - I wasn't too keen on the one me and OH stayed in in Kent but then I honestly thought I was going to get blown up so that might of had something to do with it!
Trying to call OH to make sure he can get those dates off for his magical mystery tour but I can't get through. Boo!
Tete - Yay to the countdown!! I've been counting down to my Ribblesdale holiday since I booked itOnly 62 days to go!
