Don't you're tempting me! Been looking on the VW website and you can get one for £5110 with scrappage ... Augh... Poolie do you know if the scrappage thing is still running out in October?

The scrappage scheme is expected to run out in October but that depends if people keep buying cars.

The scheme is meant to run till either all the money is used or March 2010.
  • Ah right. Just chosen my colour and all my optional extras on the website and my car comes to about £9k, so £7k .... Hmm, but then I think the Fiat 500 was going to come to about that ... maybe I'll just stick with my Micra :D

I love the sound of your car Tete!! Much better than a 500 (but this is coming from the girl who's 'dream' car is a seriously old fiat panda)

Yes! I've done the seemingly impossible. Found a flat in Newquay, meeting all my sisters 'needs' (ie, she could roll onto the beach and stumble backwards out of a club straight into bed) with 3 double bedrooms - all with en-suites and it's only £750 for a week. I'm dead chuffed, infact I'm having a double chocolate cookie to celebrate.

    Yey well done cinny!

I liked that landmark trust website. There is a nice house up at Gibside which is under £500 for a week in Autumn, might consider booking it next year or the year after depending on our budget. Love Northumberland. There is another one in Scotland I'd consider too, would love to take NIM right up to Speyside sometime, its one of my favourite places, and I haven't been in over 10 years.

If you like the old car and don't need a new one, it isn't saving money Tete! You'd also be better to get a two year old one, miss the depreciation kicker.

My car is starting to sound pretty ropey, suspension is cause for concern, as is the power steering and the electrics. Plus the old raining inside when it rains outside issue! No one is going to buy a 7 year old Alfa, have more chance with NIMs 12 year old runabout, but we want to consolidate and get a nicer car with the money saved, that is also more reliable for my work.

So far VWs are looking best on insurance group, but worst on milage. Now to try to find out road tax costs.

Zig you might be able to get cheap eurostar ticketing if your booking early enough in advance.

Sorry, this is probably really dense but what do you mean? :o

I have been quoted £148.50 for three people for just the eurostar tickets to Brussels, which I thought was pretty cheap. I now need to find train tickets for 3 people from Bristol to London for as cheap as poss! We found some last night for about £150 I think but then a mate of ours has said he always pays about £20 for a train ticket to London so I'm trying to find these mystical cheap tickets!

Sounds nice Cinny - we went to Newquay when we finished college at 18 , stayed at a 18-30 campsite so you can imagine it was a bit mental. Newquay itself is nice though

Where did you get that quote Zigmeister? I would quite like to go to Bruges in December as well. That price sounds amazing. Trouble is, we would have to go on a Fri and come back on a Sunday. The worst days for cheap tickets.

  • Sounds like you got the best deal on the Eurostar to me Zig, I don't think they sell for any less than about £55. You might be a bit early for tickets to London for December, you need to be 12 weeks in advance I think ... so maybe this is the right time? Not sure!

I know you're right Dinah and I do love Bluey even though he keeps shedding wheel trims like a naughty toddler that doesn't like wearing clothes. Maybe I could sew him some stripy seat covers and give him a makeover?

Well done on the apartment Cinny and think of all the sexy surfers!

Looks like there's going to be a mini MSE meet in Bruges come Dec!

Tete - I'm quite chuffed with my find! Will only be £125 each too, which isn't bad. My brother is going to ring up tonight about parking as we'd need to take 2 cars. Looking at St Ives cottages now as me and OH want to go there about this time next year... Maybe I should do some work?

Dinah - Was that the Banqueting House? Would be so lovely in Autumn! Could cosey up near the fire at night. I like the fact none of those houses have TVs too.

That sounds fab! Enjoy your celebratory cookie :)

Dinah, as always it sounds like you have SO much to think about!

OH's car has gone bye-byes too, so looks like we'll be trawling the small ads this weekend! However, it was an experiment (a £1000 LPG A4) that paid off as he's saved more than £1000 on fuel in the year or so he's had it. Now I've just got to try and stand in the way of him scrapping it for a brand new Golf GTI! He wishes! But seriously I think it will be a 4/5 year old Golf TDI or something...

All the Bruges deals sound good too, although I'd definitely be disappointed if I didn't see any midgets! Or are they dwarves... :rotfl:

ETA: I love the idea of giving Bluey a makeover Tete! When is it you start your course again, ladies?
