Hi all
This is my first post on this forum so I hope you dont mind me asking a few questions.
In Dec 2006 me and my OH bought a couch from DFS in their "sale". We have just recieved our first proper statement from them in over 2 years and it turns out we have PPI with the interest free deal we took out. We NEVER take out extra cover with anything and yet somehow we have ended up with PPI for the couch that was only costing us £52 per month.
The agreement finishes next month and its all paid off but we now are thinking when we were given the payment details etc the PPI has been added in to the sum she told us. The couch was £1575 and we took it over 2.5years so it should have been £52.50 per month not the £59.60 we have been paying but when put on the spot and toild what the payments would be its a bit hard to calculate iykwim.
Soooo back to the question,
Do you htink we would be able to claim anything back from this?
We cant find the receipt but it was done on carbon paper so Im presuming they should have a copy too.
How do we go about claiming and how much can we claim back?
Thanks in advance

If it was sold in 2006 then whoever sold it to you (DFS???) would have been covered under the FSA so yes, you can make a complaint and take it to FOS also if needs be.AnotherMakes3 wrote: »Hi all

Just take a look at the reclaiming guide here and if you feel anything applies then write a letter from the template (using you own words is better) and send it recorded delivery. You then give them 8 weeks for a full and final response and take it from there.

Hello and welcome,;)
This is my first post on this forum so I hope you dont mind me asking a few questions. We will do our best to help you.

We NEVER take out extra cover with anything and yet somehow we have ended up with PPI for the couch that was only costing us £52 per month.
So I take it this was not discussed on the sale and they added this insurance automatically then?
The agreement finishes next month and its all paid off but we now are thinking when we were given the payment details etc the PPI has been added in to the sum she told us. Ask them to post you a more detailed breakdown as its also coming to an end, you have the right to have this.
Soooo back to the question,
Do you htink we would be able to claim anything back from this?
Basically there are many reasons for mis selling, if they just added this, then yes, or if you thought it was all part of the package, and they did not discuss this with you, again yes, below I will post up Martin's useful guidelines of reclaiming, also check on the checklist on the link of mis selling reasons, in case any of them also occur to you.
We cant find the receipt but it was done on carbon paper so Im presuming they should have a copy too.
Yes they should have the copy, write to them separately to request a True Copy of your Agreement (CCA), enclose a £1 postal order or cheque payment, tell them you look forward to receiving this by 12 days of the date on your letter, and post by recorded delivery, as this is your proof of posting.
How do we go about claiming and how much can we claim back?
Will add the link below as stated above.;)
Thanks in advance
Your welcome Jen.

Here is the link to the guidelines of reclaiming, here:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
It's always best to put it into writing, in case you have to refer to your letters at a later date, so always keep copies as well.
You write to the ones who arranged and sold you the finance, give them your reasons for how you believe you were mis sold, (check as well in link checklist), they have 8 weeks to respond in full.
You can use the templates if you want to as shown on the link, or use as a guide is probably better.
You may have another opportunity to write to them again, for instance if they write back but do not resolve in your favour, where you have the chance to ask them to reconsider, do this until you receive the final response, the final response should also enclose details of the financial ombudsman service (FOS), you can take your complaint to these if your not happy with the outcome.
Again best to post by recorded delivery.;)
Good luck with this, please keep us posted and ask for help when required.

Thanks so much for your help.
When the payments were calculated it must have been already added because I remeber her saying it will be just under £60 per month (it was £59.60). We never take out extra anything so it would seem as if she's added it then worked it into our DD payments. There was never a discussion of its x amount without or Y amount with PPI added.
I will get the letters drawn up and get my brother to print them for me (kids broke the printer again!) and lets hope we get a response that we like.Kyle 03.04.04

And do not worry about writing the figures down on the reclaiming letter at this point, just your letter of complaint and request of refund of all your PPI, plus interest etc.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Good luck on this. Don't forget to send recorded and try to keep a copy for yourself if this needs to go further. Hoping it will not though....:cool:AnotherMakes3 wrote: »Thanks so much for your help.

Right Ive got my letter drafted up and Im going to email it over to my mum to print. I will report back if/when we hear back from them.
Would be so much easier if it could be done by email!

Have you had anything back from them as yet? Also can you tell me where you sent the complaint to?
Back in 2006 we went to DFS and bought a single leather sofa, the salesman showed us a leather care kit that included a cleaner and conditioner along with some "special" cloths. We thought it was a good idea so we said yes.
The salesman said the care kit also came with "free" insurance against damage etc.
However, when the paperwork came through we though it was a bit odd that we seemed to have an insurance policy.
Whilst it wasnt' PPI as such, it was an insurance policy that was sold to us without our knowledge - Does anyone know if we're likely to be able to reclaim this?0
