84.
And at last count, 82 are back in work 2-3 months later. Another has decided on a complete career change and is going to retrain as a doctor. The last is using his very generous retrenchment payment to set up a small tourism business in - of all places - Cambodia.
Wonderful news !! Good for them !
Glad that the past 18 months are over. House prices, in particular, should regain all their lost ground over the next twelve months.
Good buying opportunity now peeps0 -

Are these the same accountants who couldnt see the house price crah coming? or during the first couple months were in denial?
Im not normally one to rubbish professionals ... but they been wrong before. Either way im out of the 'race'... two years I will buy a house... if its 10% less than now or 20% more..0 -
Collateral damage. I can only speak for myself and tempting as it is to appear so very nice and shed crocodile tears for others, I can't bring myself to that level of hypocricy.
If those jobs lost were real and needed in today's modern economy, they would still exist. They don't. Ipso facto, they were non-jobs, unproductive and built up when businesses got fat and bloated during a bubble economy.
All very sad at a personal level, I'm sure, but that's the reality of modern economic life.

Yes thats a fantastic result really, and just goes to show that the unemployment rises shouldn't be that bad for people that want to work, and are talented and good at what they do.Glad that the past 18 months are over.
I think we all are.
Although it didn't really impact me, it was just so depressing to hear about doom and gloom all the time, and the (premature, as it turned out) gloating of the "arch-miserablists" as Anne Ashworth called them, was just annoying.House prices, in particular, should regain all their lost ground over the next twelve months.

In some areas it'll be quicker than that. But as a national average I think 24-36 months is more like it for return to peak.
But you're right about the buying opportunity. That window is a short one, from now until next spring. Although the absolute bottom looks to now have been missed, as it was most likely february of this year.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

You know what guys...it was a joy to read all your posts in this thread...it's been so so long to actually come on here and read how everyone seems to be a bit more cheery about the future. I was sick of all the doom and gloom, and I think that exagerrated the whole situation...yea, I agree the recession was/is bad, but I do think the media/etc kept going on and on and on about it, that it seemed to keep everyone on a downer which didnt help us to be positive enough to dig ourselves out the mire
Hopefully, this keeps up and we will all be hopeful of a brighter future in the coming year.0 -
Yes it`s good news. Was just saying that the folk who go to my local, from all walks of life, not one has been given the push from work, that makes me happy. Some contracts came to an end but the guys got work after a few weeks. I do consultancy type work for a company and I am earning far less than I used to but not overly bothered as I have been kept on. I hope things start to pick up as I want to justify what money I am earning.0

Some of these 'jobs' have been relocated to cheaper locations in the world. Even some of our biggest high street banks have used the recession as an opportunity to shed costs.
Now if someone has trained for many years as a technical engineer / software specialist etc, and finds their work relocated offshore I have every sympathy with them. Yes, they need to reskill / move on etc, but it takes time.
Just because your area, the legal profession, hasnt seen this phenomena of recent times happen, doesnt diminish the effects for others.0 -
What we really need is to bring back the jobs that were outsourced to the far east.Particularly the call centre jobs.It will boost the local economy and it will be good to talk to someone you can understand.0
