Of course, you could dig a moat on your side and fill it with crocodiles/aligators with wild boar, tigers and lions roaming the garden.
Just trying to remain practical.:o0 -
You could grow a really thorny climbing rose up that fence.0

We had a new fence fitted last year.
We didn't have any say in which way round we wanted it.....................................when I queried why I was told that if the fence is "yours" you do not have a say................the smooth side goes on the outside whether it is next to a pathway or adjoins your neighbours garden - the law apparently.

We had a new fence fitted a couple of years ago & I got the smooth side, as it cost us £400 or so I wanted it to look nice. If it had been the back fence which is on an alleyway then I would have done it the "correct way".0

Thanks everyone for your replies. The fencing bloke came about 10 mins after my original post. He agreed that its definately on the skew and is coming back to re-do it, smooth side out. Thanks again, its a great site for getting info and other peoples valued opinions.0

The usual way of deciding who owned a fence or wall if there was no documentation was that the Pillars or Posts were on the owners land.
The same with a Ditch. The spoil was piled up on the owners side.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I just had a look at my fence and the struts run vertical anyway
I thought they were vertical on all fences
If the struts ran horizontal, the water would collect on the strut and rot the wood...wouldn't it ?
If only everything in life was as reliable...AS ME !!

Its my job to gain access to peoples property on a daily basis.................. No not what your thinking I'm a window cleaner
And some peoples idea of security is a joke  even thoughs with triple bolts and six foot fences you can jump over and their usually the ones that have then left a window open :rotfl:0 -

There is no law about this - but as others have said, custom & practice suggests that you are "kind" and offer the smooth side to your neighbours.
Over the years, this has changed, but there is definitely no law about it.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
