Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 22nd August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good
Morning OS chums hi.gif
Curlytop - welcome2.gif to the thread.
sistercas - that daube of beef sounded nice. Hope you have a great time in Wales.
Bitsy - Glad you had a good holiday and sorry to hear that the weevils are still there.
Helyg - You are welcome, hope you enjoy making them when you get back.
Molly - I used the half price pastry too but I am aware they would be even more frugal if I made my own so I probably will do next time, and don't worry about not replying individually, we all just do our own thing on here!
Halight - great to see you back and sorry you have all been so poorly
Noahs - nice to see you posting - I think we lose a few mums during the holidays as they are busy!
Pen-Pin - glad you are feeling a bit better
Maitane - it's the first time I have made them that shape, I usually just make the traditional 'flat' pasty but my OH had a childhood moment and asked if I could make what he calls 'Stegasaurus pasties'.. (You wouldn't know he was over 40 sometimes!:rotfl:)
N9eav - Here in my part of Devon we went a full 15 days without rain and it's been sunny every single one of them! Finally broke yesterday with showers but any holiday makers coming here have been very happy!
Marie - Hope thunder makes his way home soon
Pink - glad you had a fantastic holiday.
Managed some more garden time yesterday. Picked another huge bunch of lilies and deep deep purple dahlias for the fireplace. Have so many flowers on my tomato plants it's unreal - just hope they all fruit as even green tomatoes are tasty. My strawberry plants from last year are now producing HUGE strawberries and they are lovely and sweet.
I decided against the Economy Gastronomy book for now and went for the revised edition of Delias frugal cooking (just under £6 on Amazon). I may end up buying it anyway at some point as I have plenty of vouchers to spend but have convinced myself I will get more use out of Delia!
Am enjoying the BM again this week after a few weeks of not bothering.. the house smells so good. We had the left overs from the bacon, sausage and bean tangy stew for dinner last night with lots of fresh baked bread.. yumyumyum..
Hope everyones week starts well... warm gentle hugs.gif to anyone who would like one.

    Morning peeps

showery rain here this morning, its not unwelcome really as it is so hot and humid we need something to cool it down a bit.

DW has been put on before i left the huse so DH can empty it before he leaves this morning and thats about all to report so far.
I didn`t have enough washing for a full load so none to hang up but i think that i shall be doing a whites wash overnight tonight.

The arm is still absolutely huge and i`m having trouble bending it at the mo, the tabs are every six hours and i`ve already had three so hopefully they will start having an effect soon. Not had a very comfortable night so i`m sat here half asleep  Off for a cuppa now but will be back later.

    Have a good day peeps.

Morning. Awoke to rain, but I think it is breaking up to be more like showers today. Certainly not a good week forecast. I have the week off and I don't really know what to do..... Garden, boat and fishing were on the cards, now I am not sure.

Fairly relaxing day on Sunday, with roast chicken tea and home grown vegetables. Carrots were a bit ropey, always seem to get hit by fly. Parsnips great, beans great. Corn is just coming in this week..... Cabbage hearts are looking good.

    Well, have a nice day....

    Morning everyone.
My veggies are slowly being eaten alive. Went on caterpillar hunt last night and there were soooooo many urgh. Cut another two heads of cauliflower and a two very small florets of broccoli. They are soaking in salted water before I blanch them. My leeks seem to be doing OK and my courgette plants are taking over LOL! Given it's my first year of growing I am pleased with the results.
Question is what do I grow once the courgettes have finished? Not sure many of my brassicas will survive winter either. I've got some winter sowing peas and some early carrots for next spring but patch is going to look a little bare otherwise!
Going to takle the weevil problem today (but need to rope my mum in to look after kids). I was kindly PM'd by a fellow MSE-er who suggested I kill them off with hairdryer in the cracks. This unfortunately requires me to take EVERYTHING about of the cupboard hence the reason for my mums assistance. They are even in my crock cupboards (even though there is no food there) so all that needs to come out. Don't want my darling kiddies smashing my plates!
So thats my day today. Oh I've got someone coming to pick up some chairs I freecycled.
I want to tackle the Fly lady list too this morning, house could do with a good clean.
Be back later if I get chance.
Have a good day OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.

    Morning folks.
I was up early this morning as we both had a restless night with this heat. Anyway, it's nice and cool in the kitchen and windows open.
House needs a really good tidy up and clean round so I will venture over to the flylady thread to keep myself going.
Roast chicken was lovely yesterday so will take the rest of the meat off that and make plans for it.
I need also to have a sort through of contents of fridge. We bought quite a bit if cheese last weekend so I need to check there is none lurking behind something. Cheese and crackers for my lunch today and some with salad in DH's sandwiches |I think.
Sending all those who are unwell, worried or sad a big (((hug)))

    Morning All

Bright sunshine here at the moment but showers forcast later, just waiting for wm to finish then will try and get it line dried before the first shower.

Having an office day today, have a massive in pile and loads of little niggly jobs to get done. Gonna start by 8.30 & really put my head down & get on with it.

If I get loads done will be off to Makro with OH later to stock up on toilet roll & capri sun. I mainly need to be there to stop him spending too much money on other stuff. Will also pick up some pate whilst there as it is very nice.

Went on a canal boat ride yesterday which was very relaxing, spent the afternoon reading in the garden. Managed to pop into netto on the way home & picked up a few bargains. Wish we had a Lidl nearer.

Best get on, cant avoid this any longer, have a great day all.x

    Morning all
Hubby's had his breakfast & is at work, I shall have mine soon & another cuppa. Washing machine is chugging away & the 1st load is already on the line.
Today's plans include, vacuuming through & cutting the grass if the weather holds. I'm also going to try & contact Social Services about yesterday.
I'm supposed to be back at work tomorrow, but I'll wait & see if my room is usable. The problem is that the workload is building up & so it will be a very busy start to the term.
I have taken AnniBL's sig to heart, I've even found it translated into Latin & I shall print it out & pin it to the wall of my room!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning all. It looks like its going to rain here. I don't think I'm going to have a good day money wise today. Off to Harrogate (20 mins away) for something for my mums birthday and new knickers for dd as her bum seems to have grown and she spent all day yesterday fiddling with her pants which isn't going to look good when she starts school in a couple of weeks!
This afternoon I'm hoping to cook as shes at nursery-its her last week so I'm going to try the Nigella malteser traybake for her to take a treat in for the others-if I manage not to eat it-perhaps I'd better make two.

    Thanks for the welcome Diva.
    Hope your arm improves Sunnyday.
Hope your ds is ok Dizzybuff.

And I hope everyone has a good day.
