Apparently now Direct Line WILL insure it as long as it has a mechanics report on the car. I take it someone like AA can do this.
Still cant figure out how to find if another insurance company as a claim on the car or not.0 -

I don't quite know what you mean about it having an "insurance interest". How exactly is this recorded? Is it a warning on the vehicle? Is it shown as a Cat D for the theft as well?
If a vehicle has been stolen and the theft has been recorded, it will remain on the register forever.
I think you're worrying about nothing, to be honest.0 -
It is recorded as insurance theft which HPI explains that it was stolen, the insurance company paid out, it was later recovered but now may be property of the insurance company that apid out.
I was instructed to contact my insurance company who would check the insurance database to see if another insurance company legally owns the car.
Direct Line said they wont do this.0 -

I'm still not clear about it, but it does sound like the kind of record that will remain on the vehicle.
Do you want the insurance company to take the car, or something?0 -
After speaking with HPI over the phone, if another insurance company didn't still have an interest on the car, insurance theft wouldn't show on the HPI report.
Basically if the car does belong to another insurance company, my mum isn't ther legal owner and her insurance is invalid. So if she ever comes to make a claim she would be without insurance. So obviously the matter needs to be resolved.0 -

It's probably just a warning that has not been removed in error - that happens quite often (you see it with finance too). I'm sure it will be easily resolved.0
