The local paper is a great way to get a bargain or put an add in the local shop. I got one from an old lady I knew whose house was for sale, she was happy for me to take it as it was an eyesore to potential buyers and I offered her £50 and she took £40. I had to buy new glass and clips for about £30 so a days work and a bargain. It has 2 slatted vents, 2 roof vents with thermostats, staging, guttering and is 10' x 8'.

Remember to use a marker pen to label the bits when taking apart and rebuilding is easier.

BTW - I'm female, was about 48 and manged it all on my own so it can't be that difficult.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me
  • I got mine from the local paper too. Cost £70 for a 12 by 10. I've had it five years and the old lady I bought it from had it around 10yrs. Me and hubby dismantled it in a day and it took us three days to reassemble. We've had to replace about five panes over the years at a cost of around a fiver each but last year I was given a full set of greenhouse glass from a neighbour who was getting rid of his so will not need to buy any more for a long time. It's certainly earned it's money though in the amount I've saved with flowers and veg I've grown in it.
  • I have a plastic greenhouse which lasted about six years until the plastic cover ripped. As the frame was still perfect I didn't want to go to the expense (about £60) of buying a complete new greenhouse so I got a new cover from soneva-shop.com which is the trading name for Swithland. It cost £20 inc p/p. for a 6'x4' cover and it is much better than the original cover.

I am going to dismantle my two plastic walk in greenhouses this year as I bought new covers for them last year and they have already persished.
They lasted 4 years with the original plain pvc covers and only one with the new 'reinforced' green mesh plastic. Most of the crop was ruined by rain after nearly the entire roof of both houses were reduced to mesh (little tiny squares of plastic all over the greenhouse floors). I have bought a polycarbonate and aluminium model and that is going up as soon as OH can get the concrete to hold down the base( needs the corners anchoring so not a lot needed).
The old frames are going to become the staging for the new greenhouse and any spare usable cover will be cloches in the veg plot.
  • I have been looking for a new greenhouse, previously cheap plastic ones either got blown away, or eventually the plastic broke up - So I have spent some time searching for its replacement & have decided to buy a polycarbonate one from Norfolk greenhouses.
I did read some general negative comments relating to loose panels & door catches but understand their latest model has revised fittings, I emailed them to ask how to secure the base & they replied showing various options, in fact I finished the foundations for the block base today.
Im not looking forward to the assembly as Ive read the instructions are a little unclear but for £129 plus delivery it seems like a bargain.
Theres only two rules to remember
    1) Im always right
    2) See rule 1

My neighbour is a carpenter and has put up loads in his time and he reckons whatever the price the instructions always seem to be rubbish lol.

We went cheap in case we didn't use it. paid about £100 for the basic norfolk one (8 by 6) with plastic sheeting rather than panels.
It wasn't the easiest thing I have even put together but not too bad. Mind OH got frustrated and would probably have put a brick throught it lol.

Once up very solid. OH made a wooden base to put it on and concreted the corner posts in, but we are on heavy clay so easy to compact down for a solid base.

whatever you choose enjoy it, I love mine :)
