MoreThan Credit Card shutting down?

Options
Hey all,

Has anyone else received a letter from Lloyds TSB notifying that the MoreThan credit card is being shut down and we're all getting Lloyds TSB Platinum cards as replacements?

What I would like to know is the Cashback percentages? Thats why I had the morethan one in the first place!!!!!

Anyone know the answer?

According to the blurb that came with the letter there are no cashback rewards with the Lloyds TSB Platinum card. Also there is some confusing information about how current cashback earned will be re-paid. I think the cashback earned so far will be applied to our last bill, then any cashback earned after that bill will be applied to the first Lloyds Tsb platinum bill, at least thats my interpretation of it.

I jumped straight on to MSE and have gone for Martins reccomendation of the egg money card. The only downside is any transactions that have to be converted to sterling attract a 2.65% commision  As the Lloyds TSB card charges 2.75% to use it abroad I'll refuse the replacement. Now I need another card for holidays. Any tips on a free to use for non-sterling transaction card?

    Lugg - welcome!

You could do with having a browse round MSE, targeting anything that sounds relevant to your enquiry. There is a lot of stuff on this topic.

Nationwide BS seems to be top of the list and you may qualify for the Saga card or Frizzell/Liverpool Victoria. I use the latter two and don't pay any loading (about 2.75% on the majority of the other cards) in Europe.
Not too clear about the rest of the world as I don't wander very far! But I think Frizzells have started charging outside Europoe.
  • I've received the letter from morethan too and after speaking the people at Lloyds I am under the impression that the cashback will not be applied to my morethan card as it isn't due until the end of July. I have to take the Lloyds’ Platinum card and they will credit my cash back there. If I don’t take the Lloyds’ card I lose my cash back. The only reason I have this card is for the cashback.

Agreed - I hadn't read the "Important Information" leaflet that came with the letter before posting.

    Main points
    - cashback is not available on the LTSB Platinum card
    - All cashback can still be earnt on the MoreThan card upto the ones that appear on any statements upto the one you get on or after 24 May 06. So if you get your last MoreThan statement on 30 May, the cashback on that is honoured.
    - The cashback due will be paid onto your LTSB Platinum card account by 30 June 06.

I already have a Nationwide BS credit card for overseas purchases.

Now will accept the LTSB card until I get the cashback credited to it, spend that amount, and close the account.
In the meantime, for all UK spending, am about to apply for a Morgan Stanley card - "2% until end Aug 06, 1% thereafter (1% on all upto 2k, then 0.5%)".

Prefer that to Egg Money - which you have to fill up with cash before using.

You don't *have* to fill up the card before using it. Egg have sold this feature as a way for customers to budget for the month by pre-loading their anticipated spending money. It is not compulsory.
  • I have recieved a letter from Acucard saying I will be getting a Lloyds card.
I Took the Texaco life of balance transfer card at about 4%, I have recieved no information about whether this rate will still apply and now have just got a new Texaco card. I have never spent on this card and have it under lock and key! I don't know whether to phone Texaco or Lloyds for info. Is anybody else in this situation?

Thanks for the clarification on "Egg Money". Phew!

Will be getting that now - though I have been trying to apply online for the last 24hrs, and it keeps failing at the last stage with "technical issues".

Nationwide were offering a cc that does not charge for transactions to be converted to sterling. Can't be certain it's still available.
