before you try removing the fabric why not try filling or part filling the box with some strong pot pourri? close the lid and leave for a couple of days, then empty it out - if its working but the smell hasnt gone completely then either replace the pot pourri and leave a bit longer or put in fresh pot pourri and leave a day or two. it would be a shame to remove the lining if its original as it may shrink if you wash it and wont fit back in.0

Hi Lilly:hello:
There is an older thread with loads of ideas for you - musty smell in cupboards . Although it's not a musty smell, the same principle would apply for getting rid of the odour.
Do let us know what works , and I'll merge your thread later!
Thanks:)

Yesterday I emptied the drawers. washed all the clothes and put tubs of bicard in each drawer. The smell is still there
I have just changed the tubs of bicard, any idea how long till the smell goes???Debt free date 23rd march 2009 🥳Autism is my super power 🏳️🌈 🌈✨0 -
Before I tried anything else with second-hand furniture, I'd give the drawers a really good wash out with a cloth wrung out in very hot water solution. I'd probably use a solution of Zoflora (concentrated floral disinfectant from £1 shop so no "antiseptic" type smells), others I'm sure would use white vinegar/bicarb etc.
I'd do this on a fine sunny breezy day (exactly like today here) and then get the drawers outside in the fresh air and sunshine to air and dry all day if poss.
Bring them back in and leave out overnight to make sure they're thoroughly dried and aired at room temp before putting them back in the chest and take it from there.0 -
