    What was his feedback like?

Oh he was quite vociferous about no feedback either for or from.

Now this is a sign that he's a regular scammer, make sure you block him.
  • Too many people lack some spine I'm afraid.

Someone puts the squeeze on and they collapse quicker than the Australin middle order.

No wonder scammers get away with so much.

  • I know what you mean about how stuff like this gets you worried etc and its all you can think about.

Recently got my 1st neg, granted its only over a pair of jeans, so no where near like what you experience. But the buyer was so horrible and mean i could feel my heart pounding a thousand times a minute, i sent calm messages (took a lot) whilst i got back abusive threatening messages.

I was a barrel of nerves and just wanted to give a refund even without getting the jeans back, just to make it all go away.

Then they filed a dispute with paypal, i was never given the chance to reply in the dispute, it made me laugh when the message was updated to say 'i have received 5 emails about this in the last hour, if this continues i will consider it harassment'

I was like harassment, really. So suddenly trying to help a buyer is harassment, if if ignored the buyer, they would of complained about that, so now they're complaining about me trying to be helpful.

Next thing i know its changed by them to a claim. 30 mins later, paypal closed it and it went in my favour.

I didn't send anymore emails after the harassment thing, nor did i ever hear anything back from them.

I'm assuming that maybe they do this often and is why paypal just ended the whole thing, i certaintly was surprised when they did.

This guy was the same - twisting everything I did into an accusation against me. He said he knew something was wrong when I didn't give him feedback immediately after he paid me. He said "I know when I send the laptop back you will make up some crazy excuse why you shouldnt reimbuse me".. too bloody right he'd taken my graphics card.

It was some wierd psycotic transference where he was accusing me of doing what he was doing..

I certainly didnt intend to encourage his behaviour and I didn't collapse at the first hurdle but after two weeks of abuse.. but the outcome was still the same.

You should have fought the Paypal claim. By the sounds of things you would have won as you described the item accurately. Paypal do not cover whether goods are fit for purpose, broken or any other factor other than whether it was "significantly not as described". You never claimed the motherboard was working in your listing, but you said there was an unspecified fault or faults. All you had to do was point out firmly and directly (preferably quoting their own rules) that the item was exactly as described and you would almost certainly have won as soon as the buyer escalated to a claim. I don't know why you let it go the way it did at all as there was no need.

Doesn't pinching your GFX card fall firmly in the category of 'theft/fraud'?

Do you still have some proof the laptop had a different card in (eg, your proof of purchase of the higher spec card/laptop config).

I'd be thinking about talking to the police at this point....

this is the downside of buyers not being able to be given negative feedback.

Sorry stevie totally disagree here. It always amazes me how people drag this one up. Feedback for buyers as we all know is pretty pointless. A Neg is just a mark in cyberspace. A non paying strike is much more effective (a couple of those and you'll have problems buying much). Just because some buyer had a Neg wouldnt stop them sniping so it really wouldn't warn any sellers.

99% of scams on ebay can be avoided with decent listing and a good understanding of both ebay and Paypal. Yes there will always be the odd one that gets through. Shop keepers have to deal with shoplifters and i'm sure there losses are much higher than most ebay sellers.

As Soolin mentioned above part of the problem is that ebay have put forward this image of how easy ebay is to use and that everyone can use it. I still think there should be an equivalent of a Driving Test for ebay, before unsuspecting sellers or buyers are let loose they need to have a proper understanding of the systems.

It would have warned OP that his buyer was a theif.

How would some sort of test stop people being duped out of their money via paypal?

In the OP's case a NPB stike isn't relevant as he did pay. There isn't a way to warn of dodgy buyers these days only dodgy sellers. I often research my buyers but in the end you have to send the item or you are risking a neg, 1's all round on the DSR's and a non performing seller strike.
