My mobile no. registered by someone else
Hi, I bought a pay as you go phone on Vodafone from Comet about 4 years ago and it came with a sim card in the box. I have been using it without any problems but now I want to port my number to O2. I rung vodafone to get a PAC code but they say the number is registered under someone else's name (they won't tell me the name) and can't do anything to get me a PAC code. Does anybody else have experience of this? How can I get around this?
Thanks

Comet probably sold you a refurbished phone then? Might try them but doubt they could help - you would need to know who its registered to - not going to find out I think.0

I bought the phone as brand new and when unpacked it seemed brand new. I did not knowing by a refurbished phone.0 -
Well my only other suggestion is visit the vodafone eforum http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/
Register and post a question there - also on this site there is a vodafone representative (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/member.html?u=791417) you can contact through a private message.0 -
Why should the phone have anything to do wirh the sim card. Surely the sim card should be registered with you when you first used the phone. It sounds to me as if either Comet or Vodafone have either done something naughty or Vodafone have cocked up on their paperwork.
If they have been billing you then they must take responsibility for this. Who have you spoken to? Contact CEO and report this to Trading standards and Ofcom or whatever they call themselves now.0 -
I had this happen recently with a Virgin sim, it seems there are some people who register the sim in there name (normally online) and then will port the number out, this is normally done if the number is a bit of a "Gold" type number - easily memorable etc!
Virgin were quite good about it as it is a known scam (the person who registers the number in their name sells them on ebay etc, even though they are not technically theirs), it is a fault in the online registering system.
We got round it by providing them with the unique serial number of the sim which proved that we had ownership of it!0 -
Hi pvr,
Have you managed to get this resolved yet?
If not, could you email your details to me using the 'Contact us' form on our website which you get to here?
When sending the email could you also include within the body of it a link to this thread and the code WRT135 to make sure it comes through to me?
Many thanks,
Lee
