If its gusty outside then the aerial could physically bounce about resulting in an unstable picture. Rain can sometimes effect picture quality as can snow (More so if the aerial is on its limits to start with):idea:0

What can happen is that a distant TV transmitter on the same frequency as a mux you are using can be boosted in strength by a process known as tropospheric ducting and interfere with your wanted signal.

We suffer from this regularly. I checked the frequencies involved and the interfering transmitter is over 200 miles away.
Thunderstorms can wipe out satellite reception.0 -
