    I remember it well :D

Enquired about a loan with Nationwide as we have a Flexaccount and they're offering 7.7% to customers. They offered me 19.9%APR! So sod that.
So, applied at Alliance and Leicester - I've had a loan with them before so fingers crossed. (Actually, I've had a loan with Nationwide too :o)
OH I hate my stupid irresponsible self! I feel like such a child.
To be honest I'm still on a bit of a downer about it. I really don't want more debt. I know it's a necessity but it's still debt and a significant amount.....
Anyway, isn't it your last day tomorrow Andy?!

Enjoy it! I'm sure they'll get you something nice and give you a good send-off. Have a good one! :j:beer:

Well I do hope you can get a loan at a reasonable rate Macgirl. Throwing money at an old motor that never appreciates it is far worse than taking out a loan to buy a newer one. I had a situation a few years ago where I had an immediate repair bill of about £650 pluds an MOT to follow a couple of months later. The MOT work that I actually knew about was another £300 plus anything that I wasn't aware of. The van was very old. I decided to put my thousand pounds towards the next one rather than throwing it at the old one so I scrapped it. I was luckier than you with the credit situation though. I had some MBNA CC cheques at 0% for 6 months so I wrote one of those out. It left me vanless until it cleared but I needed a rest anyway ;) .
I think this is one of those situations where it needs to be broken down into monthly outgoings rather than thinking of the whole amount. There's the monthly cost of the loan to be balanced against the monthly cost of repairs etc. Also, you may be able to get something that has low road tax. Another thing to consider is this. I don't know if it srtill works like this but you often used to be able to get a lower interest rate the more you borrowed. If you have other debt that is higher than the car loan, maybe borrow extra and use the balance to offset against a more expensive credit card? 19.9% may not seem so bad if you can use part of it to pay a card bill that is costing 22%+ .
  • Nearly forgot ;)
