The grand plan for Catzpaws ... can it be done?

Good luck Catzpaws! My OH & I both pay wages into our own accounts, then pay a proportional amount into a joint account - currently twice as much for him as for me as he takes home twice as much as I do! We use that for bills, food and for household expenses if we have it spare - anything else comes out of the current accounts.
I'm also trying to get my expenditure down as we'd like to start trying for a baby in 18 months time so I really empathise with youGrocery Challenge: target 400: so far spent 247

Just re-read through my posts... feel fed up and tempted to go to pub for a nice glass of wine. Aaargh! Do they do free wine, I wonder?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. This happened to a friend of mine recently, said she'd think about it and ended up being booked in (spa weekend) which was £100 then food and drinks added on top... I think people get carried away wanting loved ones to be there but it's tricky if you're trying to save money
Oh, that's not the half of it. Recently, OH paid for his mum's birthday that was supposed to be from him and all his brothers. He's not seen any money from them yet (or heard any mention of it)! Makes me feel very annoyed now that I've thought about again!Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Thanks vodkabarbie... good luck with your plans too re: money and babies! We currently have same arrangements with own and joint accounts, but I have found it quite difficult to organise - as debts and spending are here, there and everywhere. Never really wanted to merge finances fully, but I think this will be a step in the right direction for us as a couple. OH has no interest at all in finances so it'll make sense for me to manage it all <cue evil laugh>.Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Yeah that would really annoy me, the fact they haven't mentioned it is abit rude?!
Go on, treat yourself to a nice glass of wine!Er, as long as it's in the budget that is

Well, I certainly think so! Note to self: mention to OH again to say to his brothers.
I'm glad you've approved of my plan for wine . OH will payTwenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. Instead of going the pub, I popped to the shop (Aldi) on the way home and bought the followng for OH and I to share:
- A lovely New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc
- Diet cloudy lemonade
- Jelly beans
Had the wine with a really nice home made dinner (a lurvely brocolli pasta dish with tomato and mascarpone cheese sauce with some garlic chilli breadcrumbs. OH had meatballs too), Ummed and aahed between the good wine (£5.99) and the cheaper one (£3-odd). Plumped for the pricier one in the end as thought I could have paid a lot more in the pub!
Mentioned to OH that he should remind his bros about money for his mum's present. He texted them, which was good.
OH deliberated whether to get last minute tickets for a festival or go for a big clubing night out this weekend . Naturally, I said 'no' as that WOULD be several £00's down the tubes come Monday! - so I suggested an X Factor get together instead. So, now we're going to have a bit of a gathering on Sat night. Just need to make sure I don't spend too much money on food and drink though....

I've restarted the meal planning again. Put together a shopping list for Saturday based on list. Will need to see how much this costs in Aldi, my new shop of choice! Have included food for Saturday night too and also some booze.
Trying for minimal spending today - just dog class today. Resisted temptation to buy something at lunch from shop.
Roll on pay day.
