hi,
i am having problems with my computer network at home.
i have a router/modem connected to a desktop pc, and i have 2 computers connecting to the router via a wireless connection.
my problem is that the 2 computers which are connecting via the wirelss connection can get on the internet and everything is normal.
but
the computer that is connected to the router with an ethernet cable isnt connecting to the internet.
when i unplug the cable from the computer and plug it back in there is a little box that pops up to say it is connected so it isnt a dodgy cable.
does anyone know how i can sort this out?
Andy

Could be an IP address problem. You need to check that the offending PC's IP address, subnet mask and gateway are correct. Best way is to open a command line box (Start -> Run -> cmd) and run 'ipconfig'. Also, try pinging the router's IP address.0

Check that the wired PC is set-up so that it acquires an IP address and DNS servers info. automatically. And cables do go bad, maybe worth trying another.0

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renewEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
i can ping the routers ip address without any failures.
ipconfig - what do i look for? and what do i compare it to?
i set it up to acquire ip address automatically and it came up saying that there is limited connectivity.
ipconfig/release - worked
ipconfig/ renew - the operation failed as no adaptor is in the state permissible for this operation.0 -

Compare it to the same command on the 2 working computers. All w.x.y.z addresses should be the same, except for IP address. It would help if you posted the command output here.Jacklin2001 wrote:ipconfig/ renew - the operation failed as no adaptor is in the state permissible for this operation.
Try repairing it Network Connections, as that does a bit more than the ipconfig/release and /renew options.0 -
connection-specific DNS suffix :
Description : VIA RHINE II Fast ethernet adapter
dhcp enabled : NO
subnet mask, default gateway, dns servers same as on other computers
tried repairing the network but stops part way with this message:
windows could not complete reapairing because following action could not be completed:
clearing the dns cache0 -
Try typing in the command prompt - ipconfig /flushdns

windows ip configuration
could not flush the dns resolver cache: function failed during execution0 -
check that the DNS Service is started.
