I like my Garmin Nuvi 250 but to be honest I don't think there is a lot between Garmin or Tom Tom.

One thing I would suggest is joining https://www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk they have thousands of 'Pointso Interest' you candownload onto you Sat Nav. For example I have downloaded all of the National Trust and English Heritage sites. If you subscribe they also have an excellent speed camera database which is updated very regularly.

You always hear stories on the news and in the papers about someone who's satnav took them across a field or in to a river. Why don't they ever say the name of the brand? Isn't that consumer information to know which brand of satnav leads you in to fields?

I had a Garmin a couple of years back and it was forever taking me in to fields. Living in Scotland that might sound like it's not Garmin's fault, but I bought a Pioneer stereo that had satnav built in and have never had any problems. Do Pioneer do small cheap standalone versions?

Oh, and postcode finder facility gets a huge vote from me! Couldn't be without that now.
I've been making animations for my daughter. Tell me what you think? Search for "Where are you Pickles?" and "Pickles and the Bully" on YouTube.
