They are all much of a muchness. I prefer the Garmin models. I have found their customer service to be excellent, and the products to be very reliable. I have yet to find a model that doesn't offer routing to avoid motorways, toll roads and u-turns.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Ebuyer have navigo units for £50ish
They are capable of running TOM TOM software with a bit of tweaking. (the unit is shipped with turbodog which is a bit pants IMHO)Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Garmin and don't worry about it, very useful you will not go out without it!
Another feature you may not realise is that after dark its more like a radar showing the road ahead.0 -
I use a tom tom and it sometimes takes me on strange routes, but 9/10 times it chooses the quickest routes. Never used a garmin so it may be betterMortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved0

I'm in a similar position to the OP and want to buy my first satnav (having travelled 10 miles in the wrong direction on a motorway today
). Have decided on Garmin but no idea which model to go for. I want something very simple and intuitive to use with traffic updates and speed warnings to ensure I do not inadvertently go over the limit. Any advice gratefully received! “A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

I have the nuvi 265. Not the cheapest model but does almost everything, including pairing with my phone as a hands free kit. Also has European maps. In retrospect, I would have paid a bit more and got the model with lane advice and FM.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
