I`ve had a bit of a nosy round and found that the Hills one contains eicosapentanok acid (whew hope i`ve spelt it right) which is an omega 3 fatty acid and also glucosamine and chondroitin.
The acid comes from oily fish ie herring, mackerel, salmon and sardines and also codliver oil. Apparently the fish get it from the algae that they consume.
I`ve had a look at the pero website and find that they do a food which is formulated for labradors (what breed is your oldie?) which contains similar ingredients.
The one that i noticed most is the one formulated for labradors but sounds good for your needs, it has glucosamine and chondroitin and also salmon.
Here is a link

I think the link may make the page behave badly but i`m not going to break it up in case it won`t work
I would give it a try, you could supplement with glucosamine & chondroitin tabs from a health food store (i do this with my oldie) and also give him the odd tin of sardines in oil too.
Read about the ingredients in their food on the site - i did and was very impressed. Mine are starting on a pero food when i`ve got to the end of my stock which should be around another month.
Shop around too as the prices can vary a bit.
I`ve written this post twice so far and hope that it gets posted this time as i`m at w*rk and this pc is not behaving at all.
Anyhow, have a read and see what you think.

EDIT , you will find with the legs that they do have good and bad days, even the weather has affected our oldies legs. In the past we have had german shepherds and their legs always go in later life. Its not nice for them but like i say they do have good days and bad ones. ((((HUGS)))) for your oldie.
He is a staffordshire bull terrier crossed with a jack russell, from reading around on the hip thing hes got, its rare hes got it because its usually only pure breeds. Anyway thank you for your help. I'll have a look into it and let you know what I find.
Thank you again, from me and my oldieJust me, in my own little world

Hi Millysmuttleylaugh,
here`s another link for you to Trophy pet food
http://www.trophypetfoods.co.uk/
My free samples from them arrived today. They took ages so i`d just about written them off but the dogs have eaten both samples no problem so i will probably buy some of this too and either mix it with the Pero or feed on alternate days so that they get some variety.
I think as long as your staffie cross gets some glucosamine and chondroitin daily as well as oily fish like a tin of sardines a few times a week he should do well on either of these diets.
One of my monsters is a 400 year old staffie/whippet cross.:D He was very badly abused and has heart problems amongst other things. He has one of these every day to help his legs and joints http://www.naturesbest.co.uk/Glucosamine-and-Chondroitin-P540/
I wrap the tablet in a bit of bread or mould cheese around it and he`s doing fine. No idea of his real age and even the vet can`t help as his teeth are strange. He`s an amusing happy little old man who looks comical as he has a large overbite. He is a very happy loving little man who has got used to his limitations. It`s taken us a while to sort out his weight as he has a high metabolism despite not being very mobile.
Sounds as if they are similar dogs in some ways. I hope that you manage to sort something out for yours. Good luck.
I`m off to do some more research on who has the best prices as i need to order the food in a couple of weeks so that i have some in for when my old brand of food runs out.

Tesco Luxury cat food (50% meat) appears to have gone down from over £4 a box of twelve pouches to under £3 a box, this is a fairly regular offer but this time it is showing up on the Tesco site as being the standard price not an offer. In any case it's a great price for a higher quality food given that most of the brand names contain just 4% meat.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I have two mixed breed Japanese Spitz puppies, and really searching for cheapest ready to eat food for them too, but I would like to ask your own opinion if it is cheaper if we do prepare their own food for them? do you have any recipes if ever it is possible?0

You certainly can make your own pet food: raw is better than cooked as many nutrients are damaged by the heat process. The cheapest commercial dog or cat food is not necessarily good value for money - you will find they contain very little meat (just 4%) and your pet will do giant smelly poops. With high meat foods the dog or cat eats much less, there is hardly any waste and it won't smell!!
As far as home prepared food goes, being cheap depends on a few things: firstly do you have access to a butcher who will sell you offcuts for next to nothing (ask for pet meat)? Are you OK with handling offal - kidneys, heart, lungs? Some people get these for free as the butcher has to pay to dispose of his waste, if not supermarkets sell fresh Smartprice chicken wings, frozen Value/ Basics chicken portions, pork and beef hearts/ liver/ kidneys all well under £2 per kilo. :money:
You will need to do some research to make sure your dogs get a balanced diet - they need meat, bone (raw never cooked), offal, fat and vegetables. With dogs you can also include leftover rice, pasta or potatoes but cats should only have animal products - eggs are fine both raw or cooked. If you Google BARF or 'Raw Meaty Bones' or frankenprey/ prey model there are many different recipes online. Also quite a lot of discussion on raw feeding over on the Pets board and loads of videos on YouTube: I partially raw feed my cat and he LOVES it.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

dawnie1972 wrote: »Try netpetshop - very reasonably priced. Also does ur dog specifically need the expensive dry food as they do a dry food called Breederpack - mine all have this and love it - and its about £10 for a 15kg bag.
Rubbish customer service though, we bought a cat water fountain, it broke after 6 months so sent it back as per their instructions, they then said they sent a cheque - nothing arrived, 4 weeks later still havent heard from them!0 -
For those with kitties that eat felix at pets at home the normal pouches and the as good as pouches are on offer both the same price at £20 for 2x48.
