Plustek Slide Scanner

I have been given a Plustek Opticfilm 7200 slide scanner. Despite intalling the software which comes with it I cannot get the scanner recognised. There is a picture of the scanner in the tray with a red cross through it.

I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling but to no avail. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

All it says is Quickscan Opticfilm 7200. Nothing happens when double clicked. Windows XP

Sounds like thats an icon for whatever application comes with the scanner.

Driver issue if the thing is plugged in and on and not being recogonized. Try windows update, maybe there is an updated driver you can get through that.

No, I don't think this is the software icon - as far as I have been told this indicates whether the scanner is available. The software that is installed keeps telling me no scanner is available.

  • Latest drivers and application software can be downloaded from here - http://www.plustek.de/uk/support/download.php

Might be an updated version to what you have on the cd.

Does the scanner light up? Maybe there is a problem with the power adptor.

Yes, there is power to the scanner. I have just uninstalled everything once again and am walking away from it for a hour or two otherwise scanner will be out the window!

This could be an old model - there are drivers for Win98/ME available. There are updated drivers available on the Plustek website. Check which one you need first by serial number.

Calm down and wait a minute !

I've just googled it and see they cost £200 + so it must be reasonably OK, it's just a matter of taking one step at a time. I have a slide scanner and am unsure if it's the same, but you will have to wait till tomorrow before I can check. As an aside, would you dare to ask why you've been given it. Try to establish if it was in fully working order before it was handed over. Would it be an idea to get the person who gave it to you, to demonstrate it?. They would know in an instant if it was a 'puter thing or not. Failing all of these, may be you could try a few other forums and see if anyone else can guide you. Are you familiar with https://www.webuser.co.uk and their forums?. Like Arnold Swarz...........I will be back, but not until tomorrow OK?

Thanks islandman. I was given the scanner a few months ago by someone emigrating and who had no further need for it as they had scanned in all their photographs. I do know they had great results. I don't have a current email address for them or else I would contact them. I certainly don't think it is faulty. As far as I can remember it is only about 18 months old.

I am leaving things alone this evening as I will only get rather angry and frustrated. Will look to downloading up to date driver tomorrow and try that Taffy. Will also have a look at webuser.

Thanks to those taking the trouble to help me out.
