That worked perfectly. I was beginning to tear my hair out. I think I'm an example of why non techie people shouldn't buy linux Don't get me wrong, I love my netbook, I find it very nifty secure etc. But when it comes to simple things like updating my browser I'm totally lost.

I don't suppose you know a way to get a vodafone dongle to work on my netbook I've being trying for months but the techie jargon stumps me.

Wait! I just remembered: there's an update available that may add support for your modem - try that first.

Go to Settings→Live Update.

Ok I've done the live update but still not working. Any ideas on which driver to download from the site in my last post?

Thanks again TangleFoot, I *think* I'm nearly there. The vodafone icon is displayed in the taskbar but it's still not connecting. I've left a comment on the blog you pointed me to so fingers crossed
