Hi, I wonder if I might join you? I'm single mum to dd who's 4 and 2 siamese cats.
Those pasties sound lovely Diva, I'm hoping to make some mini pasties to freeze for dd's packed lunches (she starts school in two weeks) and I might try some of those as well as the mince based and cheese and onion ones I was going to do.
We are going to dd's grandmas 70th birthday lunch today which I can't say I'm looking forwards to as its all family (some whom I haven't met) apart from me. I suppose I'll just have to look upon it as a free lunch in a nice resturant and if that doesn't work as a (hopefully) nsd!!
Hope everyone has a good day and that N9eav's kids get to see the high tide.

Hi all
Been MIA since school broke up as I just do not have the time to post when I have DS with me.....have read the daily quickly some days.
DS has gone to his uncles wedding with his dad today and is back tomorrow. I do hope he will be ok as family get togethers are not his best thing at all. I think it is small and very informal so he should be ok....if not his dad will have to take him away from it for a while.
I tidied up with DS yesterday and did ironing so am sat here with all my jobs done;)
Today I am going to do a meal plan for about 6 weeks so I can get another meat order in at the farm shop.
Hope everyone is surviving the hols:cool:.....it has been difficult here as there is very little to take DS to as everywhere is too busy for him...will be glad when school starts again and DS must be the only child in the UK to be desperate to get back to school.
He will have a new one to one when he gets back with more experience with autistic children so fingers crossed it all goes ok for him next year;)
Next week he wants to go to ELC to get a washing machine( he loves pretending to be a washer and making machine noises)...he wants a pink one:o
Moliere I was thrilled to read that your grandaughter arrived safely:T congrats to all and hope you are enjoying some snuggles with her.
Ladyshopper I grew up on the Northumberland coast and hearing you mention Grace Darling made me smile...I used to love going to her museum as a child and can remember her huge ornate grave in the churchyard opposite at Bamburgh....it just always fascinated me as a child for some reason. I keep saying we will take DS for a small holiday up there someday.
Anyone heard anything from sunnygirl yet? it is odd that she hasnt posted at all as she was on everyday.....0 -
Hi Guys,
Nice to read your posts. How exciting to be on the trail of that tortoise. Have you found the others yet?
A very quiet day today for me. My eldest son is at work and my daughter is going off to a party and sleepover. Im trying to chase my son's Reading ticket but it hasn't been sent yet. Im not worried about getting my money back as its backed by a guarentee - Viagogo but he will be hugely disappointed and it is my gift to him to say well done. Oh well I cant do anything more now till Monday.
Those pasties look yummy and i will have to get some made. i ordered some of the halfprice pastry from T so they will be very economical.
Have a peaceful day,

Morning all
Lovely & sunny here today, hubby has had his cooked breakfast & is now glued to the TV (red button) watching the GP, I've had my breakfast too, grilled toms on toast, I have such a glut of them. it's become my regular breakfast.
I had a text from my boss last night telling me not to bother going in on Monday as my room is still unusable, I should have started back last Monday. It wiill be a miracle if it's ready for when the kids start back.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all:j
Sunny, but overcast here today - not sure what the day will bring
MSD - the pasties looked gorgeous - will try those when the kids get home (I might eat them all othewise!)
ivylead - no, still no moving date. We were expecting the bottom of the chain to be signing and paying their deposit on Monday but my solicitor has just discovered that they have raised some enquiries with their vendor's solicitor so we are all put back another week or so. It means that it is unlikely I will get moved before we go back to school. That week is tricky for me as we have a staff Inset day on the Wednesday and the Tuesday will be taken up with preparing the staff buffet lunch for the inset day. (Well, I AM the cookery teacher:rolleyes:) The children return on Thursday so that's out. It probably won't be until the week of the 7th September now:eek: Considering we 'sold' at the end of April, I am not impressed:mad: Am wondering whether to unpack some boxes so that at least we are not surrounded by chaos for another three weeks
N9eav - I always thought the highest tides were connected to the equinoxes? Please put me straight.
*Sudden thought* - you may know the answer to something that I have recently noticed. I live about 15 miles inland from the coast. When I am in the garden having my early morning coffee:D the seagulls fly out to sea. When I am in the garden having my evening G & T:p they are all flying inland. Why do they do that when they are SEAgullsAnd where do they spend the night? They don't sleep in trees like other birds?
Must pop to the market to get some veggies. Coz we were moving, I haven't planted anything in my beds at home and really begrudge having to pay for veg. Still, the market is more OS than the supermarket. Down with supermarkets:T Have some books waiting for collection at the library along with a DVD of 'Shirley Valentine' - I just love that film. If I don't log on again you'll know to look for me on a Greek island, watching the sun go down (with G & T in hand:D)
Have a lovely OS day

Morning peeps
Lovely and sunny today :j the forecast said that it was going to be horrible so its a nice surprise. I managed to get most of the washing done on the economy 7 electricity time and it is now all out on the line, the whites are gleaming in the sun. I don`t really know why but i love to see this.
DH has been dropped off at w*rk and the houndies have had their walk. I have lots of limes bubbling away on the hob to make lime marmalade with later.
Redruby - i shall also be blanching beans and pickling cucumbers in a couple of hoursmy cupboard of jam, pickles and chutneys is starting to fill up nicely. I also have 3 demi johns of wine to bottle later and i need to start some more off.
Diva - those pasties look very tasty, i shall save the recipe to make later when i have some room in the freezer, DH will love them to take to work for lunch.
N9eav - Great news about Zeus :j hope that the others are found soon.
Bitsy - I find that there`s nothing like your own bed, when ever we go away i`m always grateful to return to mine. I suppose it`s what you are used to really, any strange bed and my back starts to play up.
I`m off for a quick browse and then need to sterilise my bottles and jars.
Have a super sunny Saturday peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Hi Guys!
I am still feeling rough and the Tamiflu tablets make me quite sick. Tomorrow is my last day on them, but my weight has dropped which I cant afford to loose. I have been feeling very fed up with myself! GP has been keeping a close eye on me and the nurse has been in and out each day as usual. OH bought me the new Economy Gastronomy (sp) book from Amazon as I was talking about it and the Black Eye Pea CD...I started crying when I opened them as I felt so crap:o I dont do crying usually, so it was a tad embarrasing:D
DD hasnt been well either, so she has been asleep quite abit the past day or so.
I also have to admit that we had 2 take-aways this week, but in my defence it was cheap;)...we shared a large cod and chips (between the 3 of us) at £7.50 and then I had a 50% off Dominoes (we RARELY order a pizza), so that was £12 and we got loads including 2 pizzas, garlic bread, chicken pieces and wedges. TBH I didnt eat much, but it was nice just eating something.
Have had a clear through of a few bits and bobs and have ebayed a few bits this week as we are saving for DD's bed base and I nearly have enough from selling old clothes, dvd's and ornaments that I dont like etc.
Paid my MC yesterday and got £10 off our sky this month. Rent paid and water rates. Need to get DD another item of school clothing which will cost £35...its disgusting that we can only buy from 1 place.
New cleaner started yesterday and she seems great-very thorough which is what I wanted. It took abit longer as it was her first clean but in future will take just 2 hrs, which I am happy with. She is cheaper than the agency which is good too and also does ironing, so if we need it, she can help us out. I dont have any friends that like ironing and they all work FT and have heavy social lives. I actually asked her if she could do our ironing this week...probably about 25 items and she said it would cost £13 inc delivery back as it would only take an hour. It sounds too cheap, or is that about right?
The dog is doing well and will be able to go to the park Monday after his jabs. He is growing so fast.
Having a BBQ later of burgers, sausages and HM coleslaw with stuff from the garden. OH has done great with the veggies this year. The figs are coming thick and fast. Any recipes for figs?
Very impressed with the Abel and Cole order. Everything packed in freezer poly boxes and marked up well. Soup was devine which we had with crusty bread and butter. Will order again when they ahve some more offers on.
Anyway, I am rambling and apologise for that. I hope everyone is well.
Sammy_Kaye18-Thinking of you hun.

I'm sorry you're feeling so rough Pen Pen . I should think a couple of takeaways are more than deserved;) Hope you are feeling better soon.
I have the Economy Gastronomy Cookbook too (yes, really:D) and I made the onion bhajis and the tarka dhal last night. They were both yummy although the dhal didn't cook to a mush. I will allow more time next time I make it. I added a sachet of creamed coconut to it for extra flavour. The bhajis were fab. I don't like deep frying really, it's scary! But I used my wok with about 5cm of oil and it was quite easy and controllable. It made me want to make pakoras, spring rolls and other crispy treats:drool:
I'm in full chutney mode today. The damson chutney is simmering away filling the house with vinegary vapours.
We're having smoked mackerel pate with bread-and-butter pickles on ryvitas for lunch. Well, me and OH are having that, the kids are having cheese and crackers, carrot sticks and tomatoes.
Supper is a treat of crispy duck pancakes. I have a whole duck which I'm going to bung in the oven for about 5 hours, shred, serve with Chinese pancakes, spring onions, cucumber and hoisin sauce.
Blackberry, apple and almond cobbler (scone topping) for pud with cream;)
I'm hoping to have leftover duck and leftover cobbler for tomorrow's evening meal.
The cricket is on the radio:T and it is time for a:coffee:0
