OS Daily Thread - Saturday 22nd August

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 22nd August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS chums
Maitane and Zarazara - really glad to have you both with us!

I cannot remember who told me to try the half fat cheese on toast as I wasn't keen on the 'gritty' texture, but thank you very much, as I gave it a try and it was really nice. It was the Tescos half fat one I have used this week as it's on offer on BOGOF.
Well I am a bit tired this morning but Tristan has logged on so it was worth getting up. Hoping to have yet another sunny day today as there were lots of strawberries almost ripe and I don't want to miss out on them!
BM is on and I am perusing recipes online to try and get a little more organised and eat more freezer food! Warm gentle
to anyone who needs one today.

Corned Beef pasties:
I par boiled three smallish potatoes and softened an onion, garlic and about half a large pepper in a little oil and then cubed about 2/3 of the tin of corned beef and mixed it all in together. (Added a healthy amount of black pepper and a pinch of salt in with it.)
I divided my pastry into four and then rolled them out into rough circles and plonked 1/4 of the filling down the middle. I painted the edges with milk, pulled the pastry up and crimped it, and then painted the whole thing with more milk and cooked them for about 20-25 mins til the pastry looked nice and brown. Think I did them at around 170/180 degrees. My OH ate two but one was more than enough really.
Picture of my OHs dinnerplate! (We did have a green salad with them too btw!)

Good morning
Diva - thank you for the recipe. The pasties look delicious - I'll definitely try these.
It's cloudy here and much cooler today. This was the first night in ages that I turned the fan off halfway through the night. And it is so peaceful and quiet at the moment - I love this time of day.
Shopping and cooking are my plans for today. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some cheap veg from the market. Then I need to do some cooking for a friend who is having surgery next week.
Hope everyone has a lovely day, (((hugs))) if not.

Morning Diva. I was looking at the pasties..... Not quite Cornish but look tasty all the same.
I have been away for a few days up in London and Kent. Tortoise investigating. Great result and intersting few days. Press and TV calling all the time. Have a look if you are a tortoise fan.]
I was on meridian and West country TV for a few brief words yesterday! That's my 15 minutes of fame I guess.
London was intersting as ever. Isle of Sheppey a rather interesting place too. Driving was awful. It took over an hour to drive 7 miles in North London and then the hotel did not even have a car park! Food was quite awful in places, glad I was not paying!. Traffic on the M25 M26 M20 A303 bloody horrible. 9 hours to get home. ahhhhh
Home now and a week off. Might pop in work later to lodge my expenses claim.
Daughter needs her braces fixing at 9, so I shall do it then.
Nice to be back home. I am going to the seaside today. Highest tide of they year and I wish to see it.
Have a great day.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi N9eav and kjsam, thanks for the comments on the pasties.:D
N9eav - I watched the report on Westcountry television about the tortoises and a lady in London spotting one. I just wish I had paid more attention now I know one of the talking heads was you!
I am off to see if I can find the piece somewhere on line. I loved the article you linked us to but not sure most men would be focussing on the tortoise in picture 1, she is a very attractive lady! (and obviously just as lovely on the inside too)

Yes I met her and can see why they focussed a lot of attention on her. She was a model I guess looking at one of the pictures on the wall. Tongue nearly fell to the floor. Lovely family, love animals, pity they had to be dragged through the emotional mill.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning everyone.
Been MIA as have been on hols since Monday. Back now with a washing and ironing mountain to tackleHad a lovely break down Weston way, I do love Somerset, found some very nice villages I could live in now I just need the money to buy a v v expensive property LOL! We even managed to get on the beach which was lovely for the kids. However I must say I am really glad to be back as the bed I was sleeping on has knackered my back good and proper and each morning I wake stiff as a board and aching up and down my spine and down my legs. If only memory foam was easily transportable!!!
Got to stock the cupboards, get BM on and get baking.
Still have the evil weevils in the cupboards  How much disinfectant can these things dodge for goodness sake. And getting tired of them now, they're not as prolific but they are still there.
Blue sky at the mo. Not sure if that will last but would be very handy for the washing load I have ready to go out.
Will attempt to read a weeks worth of threads (kids permitting) but in the meantime hope you are all OK. Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all,
N9eav, nice story, is that you quoted in the paper ??? you have been papped
Diva your pasties look lovely, might try them when I get back.
Well we are off to Taunton today for the week, leaving here at 12 ish, I need to pack the cold food, make up a picnic lunch, have a tidy round, water my plants and then we are off.
Yesterday I picked a load of runner beans, and blanced and have frozen them, I also picked another two cucumbers, and pickled them, I now have a nice stock of these for winter.
We ended up eating out last night for my sisters birthday, we went to an Indian restautant in Arundel we have been before and its always really good, but it is the festival there this week, and they crowded far too many people in, we waitied over an hour and 1/2 for our dinner, on the upside they forgot to put the drinks on the bill . Also at the Castle the Lightning seeds and Idlewild were playing, so we heard all the music for free :T
John Barrowman is also appearing, I know that a few of you ladies on here, think he is Lurveeeeeerly .
We are taking a laptop with us, I need to be able to recieve E-mails regarding the house, so will be logging in to keep an eye on you all
Have fun all xx0 -
Morning All
MSD - those pasties do look nice, I must try making them one day.
N9eav - I do love visiting London but I especially love coming home back to the coast.
Redruby - I cant wait that long for my dinner but free drinks!:T
Need to dry my hair in a min then off to Dartford, getting a lorry repaired & signing some paperwork. As a treat for this am going to use my 50% off Las Tasca voucher and have tapas for lunch at lakeside. Will probably nip inside and get another Frappucino :j I have a serious addiction now, however I am really very rarely near a starbucks so I dont reackon it will become too worrying.
Glad this week is over, the house looks better due to a quick tidy up and hoover but needs deep cleaning. I cant actually see the office desk due to the amount of paperwork on it, cant wait to start getting up straight. One thing though I am uptd with my ironing :j
So not too much OS today but will be having leftover gammon with something tonight - probably egg n chips. Off then to a neighbours party which I am not looking forward to that much but will hopefully enjoy when I am there.
Have a great Saturday.

Diva - great pasties!:T
Bitsy - glad you had a nice holiday - I love that area too!
I'm off to work soon till 10pm tonight - should be quiet as 2 of the service users are away and luckily the people I work with are smashing:T we should manage to get to watch X factor tonight:D
I'm taking a leftover tuna fishcake for lunch and for dinner I've got a veggie burger and wedges(in the freezer at work)
DH and DS2 are raiding the freezer - most likely will have pizza.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend - cant wait till next weekend as I get 3 days off then!
Take care all xDo what you love :happyhear0
