My ex boss was a BNI member for a while and looking through the business cards a lot of the businesses seemed low quality...a lot of startup franchises of the sort where they've paid their fee then were desperate to find clients. In the end he got a few sales and some people who provided services to the business (some very good some average). It probably just about made the fee worth it but I think you have to enjoy networking to cover the time put in every week.
