I've stayed in a lot of Travelodges and a lot of Premier inns and I've been happy with most of them. I don't get why they always have such a bad reputation. No, the rooms aren't huge, but so what?

Compared to some more expensive places I've stayed in, they rock. The last three hotels I used that WEREN'T travelodges were verging on disaster.

Chrysoulas (in Kos) - beds were like rocks. We asked for a double bed with a sea view, and ended up in a twin room with a view of the letter C (on the hotel's logo). They changed the sheets/towels once a week. Staff were unfriendly. The shower often got jammed on full blast shooting hot water everywhere.

A hotel in devon: Nice atmosphere, but terrible beds. The bath was dirty, the TV had no reception, the toilet wouldn't flush and the sink had no plug.

Somewhere in coventry: Awful, rude staff who tried accusing me of pretending to be me, because they spelt my name wrong and decided that >I< was spelling MY name wrong because I was a fraud. They only relented when I showed them every bit of documentation I had with my name on it, including the booking form.

It wasn't worth the trouble though. Tiny rooms. The free wifi didn't work, nor did the 'free sky TV'. The room was unfinished with nails and screws sticking out of everywhere. The bathroom was covered in mould, even on the floor. The beds were so hard that my friend who was sharing our room actually hurt himself when he dived onto it (he didn't believe it was as hard as i said). It was dusty, grimy, creaky and overpriced. I didn't sleep a wink and ended up sleeping on the floor because it was better, then leaving and finding somewhere else to stay at 6am.

All those places had 3 to 4 star ratings, but I wish I'd gone with a travelodge instead.

thats what we had thought when we booked for Blackpool - theres is dozens of b+b's to choose , but having not gone for years we felt the Travellodge was the safer bet in both price and knowing what to expect.

There is a retired couple who stay (or should I say "live") full time at the Newark Travel Lodge. They get a special long-term rate, and say there are very happy with the arrangement.

Stayed there last Sunday night, couldnt fault it.
Clean, modern, comfy beds and professional staff. Didnt eat there but saw quite a lot of other people doing so and it looked quite good.

Could imagine it could be quite noisy on a Saturday night as its on a main road but Sunday night was quite quiet.

The only downside was that we got there at 2.30 and they wanted a £10 early check in fee. No way, we went for a coffee, 2 of them cost a site less than a tenner. half an hour later we were allowed to check in with no problem. The best of it was the price £29 for the two of us.

I have been working in Peterborough for a few months. I have stayed at 3 of them. The City Centre one is clean, quiet apart from the Cathedral Bells, and all rather impersonal. For the £19 a night I paid for it the hotel was superb. The one at Alwalton is vile. The shower comes up to my chin and the bathrooms all have a musky smell, the rooms do not appear to be clean. The one at Eye Green is super. The staff are pleasant and friendly, always welcoming, the rooms well looked after, the bathrooms always clean. It is, not quite a pleasure staying there, but it is certainly not a chore.

Actually for budget/3* hotels Travelodge rooms are actually a pretty good size, just the lack of anything interesting or colourful, and often, clean or working facilities is the problem.

What's the problem, you got a sea (C) view :rotfl:

We've stayed at loads of Travelodges and apart from one (St Austell which was both noisy and hot) have found them very good. Plymouth is one of the best.

Clean and cheap, we've never paid more than £29. What more can you want?

More of the cheap rates. They very often aren't available. ;)

Never had a problem with them - much preferred to the 5* hotels I used to have to stay in for £200+ per night, many of them had small rooms, badly furnished and terrible staff, but could get away with it for some reason!!

At least with Travelodge and the like you have a fair understanding of what you are going to get for your money and the rooms are all a reasonable size.
