Brilliant, got mine working and now I can constantly keep checking on the updates to the forums that I visit most without even visiting the site (although I will still be on here very often!)

    Thanks for help everyone, M

    BTW, what is "auto-discovery"

sorry for being dense, I have never known and felt stupid for asking but what is a RSS feed?

Well for me, an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication (whatever that is)) means like I said above, I can see the new posts on the forum in a list without visiting the site

BTW, how does anyone know how long the "auto refresh" is on a live book mark is and how I can change it in FF?

    Cheers

If you have a feedreader program, it can collect snippits of your favourite websites (if they have RSS) and put them all in one place for you

I use Google reader these days for my feeds

For Firefox, the sage extesnsion is much better than Live bookmarks

    Sorry, missed that

auto-discovery is when the page tells your browser there's a feed available rather than you having to go and look for it.

E.g if you go to BBC News with Firefox you should see an orange icon in the address bar that you can click on to add a live bookmark quickly.

after the forum upgrade we're having tonight, you'll see that icon when visiting MSE. But unfortunately clicking on it will only add a live bookmark for the whole forum, rather than for individual boards

I would recommend the Sage extension for Firefox, http://sage.mozdev.org/

It has a nice Autodiscover feature to find out if a given site , like this one has RSS feeds.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
