My cat was fine with sudocrem, and shes still her to tell the tale, i have done it with many cats in the past :) they hate collars on i dont see the point in putting them through the annoyance when they hate them so much

But you can't give medical advice on MSE... :)
So please don't advise people to apply lotions and potions - after all their pet could have a reaction or it could react with a med they are on that we don't know about :)

it will not leave the stiches alone, i managed to put a collar on it that i bought from the vet and she went berserk, i was worried she was going to hurt herself
any ideas on what i can do, im terrified she will pull the stiches out

when my cat was spayed a few months ago, she went crazy with the collar on. She was walking backwards and running around like mad, but I kept the collar on her. In the end she did get used to it. I took it off once to see how she would be with her staples, but she licked them straight away, so on went the collar again. I felt awful about putting it back on, but it was for the best. The nurse at the vets said her wound was really clean because I'd kept the collar on her. It can get infected if the cat licks it. Good luck!
  • Mine was done 2 weeks ago and had to keep the collar on for a week afterwards. She got used to it pretty quickly, but we helped her with her itchies when she got them :)

Heya i'm a vet here! I have always done under the skin dissolvable sutures with cats expecially as they LOVE to lick the wound, hide the sutures and no problem. The best thing is really to persist with the buster collar, they will get used to it eventually!

I would NOT apply sudocreme to a surgical wound! It could contaminate the wound and cause a reaction/infection etc. Never apply any creams etc to surgical wounds, specially in teh first few days when they are still quite open and new and therefore things can seep in and cause problems.

Any other questions I am more than happy to answer :)
  • cheers KVet, always nice to have a vet on board.
