Same problem here just now. Had one of those automated security calls from Egg, they've all been false positives so far (they even keep flagging up a monthly payment to the same company) and I was seriously about to ask them to opt out. Only to discover that it was indeed fraud. I've now re-evaluated my opinion of the service!

In this case it was £2 to Oxfam. Never donated to them in my life (sorry guys, can't donate to everyone!). Very weird as I'm always extremely careful who I buy things from online or offline, and if I'm in any doubt go through Paypal and/or do a lot of digging around. I tear up any correspondence from them, have my wallet within my control 24/7 (seriously), never store details on paper or unencrypted (and if encrypted only with a very secure password), never been the victim of card fraud in my life until today.

The only risk object that is not in my control at the moment is my main computer which is currently being repaired at Apple, Manchester, and coincidentally is probably undergoing repair today (the parts arrived yesterday). But surely a company of that magnitude and respectability wouldn't do anything dodgy, even if they found my number unencrypted somewhere which is highly unlikely! Very strange.

Egg immediately cancelled the card and are sending a new one.

Bloody fraudsters cost us all so much time and money (it has an indirect impact even if we get reimbursed - less profit for the card companies compensating for it = higher fees for everyone). They should throw away the key.

    Hi everyone

I got a call from my CC company at the weekend. They'd flagged up a suspicious transaction - 2, in fact - both from Oxfam Ltd. and each for the princely sum of just £1.

The card has been stopped and I'm being re-issued a new one with a new number.

A few months back I made a purchase from a website which turned out to be fake (the goods were not delivered, no money was debited and the telephone was on permanent voicemail - see my posts in this thread on another forum). My suspicion is that the attempted fraud related to this attempted purchase and my details being stored for subsequent abuse.
