Ads for Sofas

I think the point is that the non-sale price is unrealistic, and far too high to compare favourably with similar items in other shops, therefore no-one in their right mind would buy at that price. Therefore they might as well put it in the wilderness just to sit out the 28 days, rather than take up potential selling space in a busy store.
It is a ploy to make the subsequent "sale" price look like good value, while getting around the legal requisite that it has to be offered at the "full price" for 28 consecutive days blah blah blah....".I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I got so sick of the adverts that when I actually wanted 2 sofas I went to Oakridge direct and was delighted with the bargain I got.
Even more delighted to think that I was not putting money into celebrities pockets. ;D ;D ;D"This site is addictive!"

Although DFS always have a sale on, the sale is not always on the same items. So some items will be full price in most stores for a time and then they will enter the sale whilst other items are charged at full price.
Also there's nothing stopping them having expensive sofas available for home delivery for 28 days but not actually putting them on display in the store until they enter the sale.
What really annoys me about these adverts is that they never seem to be able to say the price properly, i.e. the way they say "This luxurious sofa was Seven Nine Nine now only Four Nine Nine" instead of "was seven hundred and ninety-nine pounds now four hundred and ninety-nine pounds"student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -
I don't think we should pick on DFS for this - almost every retailer does this in their sales. I NEVER believe any of the "was X now Y" crap - you have to make a decision whether the "now" price represents a good deal and go with that.
For instance back in early November Woolies were selling lots of DVDs for £9 or £10. Then they have a "buy one get one half price" sale - but all the DVDs seem to have gone up to about £15 or more. WHSmith were doing a 2 for £20 sale I think, and just doubled all their prices. Similarly almost EVERY retailer had a 3 for 2 deal before Xmas - with prices just inflated by 50%.
And in Woolies homeware sale today I saw loads of items marked 50% off - but funnily enough none of them were actually instore before the sale - they just magically appear with 50% labels plastered all over them!
It's called Marketing, which is the art of making people believe they are getting a great deal by very selective use of the English language. It's better known to the general public as "conning people".You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
i got my sofas in a sale from courts. they didn't arrive for 5 months. i phoned to aks where they were and was told they were being made, in italy. obviously the sale was not to get rid of surplus stock in old designs but to carry on making sofas they were perfectly able to make a profit on when sold at the sale price.52% tight0

Same thing has happened in our Safeways - loads of stuff has appeared with sale stickers on it that was never there before!!!!! ::)0 -
i noticed in the local boots that the items were reduced to the same price as they would have been on buy two get one free. (i think about a third)
Im not that great at maths but you get the gist. The price is effectively the same as the offer before christmas - suppose you now only have to buy what you want-
Shelves were very full though, maybe were all a litte more canny than boots give us credit for?0 -
Am SO SO SO happy that its not just me who is going crazy with the ads. I also love - no, loved, the song used in the DFS ad, but now i think the" closest thing to crazy" is actually beleiving that DFS are having a sale-
They have - A Jan Sale
- A spring sale
- An easter sale
- A summer sale
- An Autumn sale
- A winter sale
- A Christmas sale
Where is the logic in that???????????I think therefore i am....not TOTALLY thick!!!0
