How do i keep my current mobile number?
Hi
I have just bought a new contract phone with Orange today and would like to keep my existing number. I was told i would need to ring my current phone company to get a code of them, then ring Orange.
I've never done this before so need to know what will happen. Will it be transferred over straight away or is there a few days delay. I really can't be without my mobile as i use it for work.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Janninew

Hi, as long as you are out of your initial contract on your previous phone so their are no penalties BUT it is still an active contract then ring them up and ask for your PAC. You can then ring Orange back and start the 'porting' process. This should only take a few days - you use the old phone until it switches over then use the new phone , there should be no more than a few minutes gap and in a lot of cases it appears that sometimes the number is active on both phones for 30 mins or so. It is usually a problem free process. Please note, you can only port the number to another network. You cannot port it from Orange to Orange.0

Thanks for that, i've finished my contract with Virgin so i'm going to call and cancel. I was just worried that i wouldn't have any mobile phone to use for a few days, but this seems not to be the case.
Thanks for the advice!

Hi, you are not really asking to cancel, you ask for the PAC (port authorisation code) , you use it and when the PAC is used and the number switches this cancels the Virgin contract.0

Also, if it is a contract you need to give 30 days. When you request your PAc it's valid for 30 days, but you'll also have to pay line rental for that period. You can use it straight away though, takes 2 days to port once given to the new provider.0

I've just ported my number from Virgin to O2. Virgin gave me a number which I gave to O2. My service is PAYG, I used up my Virgin credit while waiting for the transfer. It took around 3/4 days but could still receive calls on my old Virgin phone until transfer completed.
Good luck0 -
I've just called Virgin, the women tried to get me to stay but couldn't beat my new deal. She told me that this code would be sent out in the post and would take 7-10 days. I thought they just gave it to you over the phone?:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Hi, sounds like they are just being extra awkward. In the past I have sometimes been given it over the phone and sometimes by post, however it shouldn't take more than 3/4 days.0
