Eeek, buyer in Italy bid on 62 books!

I've listed a load of books on ebay, and I've got a buyer from Italy who has bid on 62 of them. She has contacted me in advance to ask if she wins to delay payment as she is on holiday when they end, which I've said is fine, but she only has one feedback and is new to ebay. I have no issues with her buying the books as long as she knows what she is getting into.

I've e-mailed her to ask if she appreciates that postage is going to be huge and I would like to give her a quote. There is no way I am going to send these any way other than fully tracked as I've heard the post service in Italy is horrendous, so can anyone recommend the best company to use? If I use parcelforce can I just drop them off at the post office?

Thanks in advance

Jwil

You can't send fully tracked to Italy as airsure cant be used, all you can use is International signed for which has no guarantee of a signature. However you are over the weight limits for those anyway.

Assuming each book is say 250g you are looking at about 15kg and that will limit your options:

    http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinderResults?pageId=pc_sltc_rm_results&keyname=rmPriceFinderResults&catId=23500532

International datapost tracked will cost £112.49 or Global priority £78.49 (tracked again). Altrenatively you cna use a courier which will probably be a lot cheaper.

Personally I might consider removing the bids and blocking the bidder unless she states with conviction that she is happy to pay this sort of price.

I sent a package lot of books to Malta a while ago, buyer confirmed they were happy with the quote and she won and paid (I didn't use tracking as I was still below £39). Once she had won she started to try and force me to use surface instead which I refused to do.

Then she left me a positive but said 'postage excessive, would have been cheaper to fly and collect them!) and she hit my stars very badly.I'd charged her actual cost plus around 75p for packaging..so hardly excessive considering the amount of packing a job lot of books needs.

Thanks for the reply. I've messaged her again and quoted approximately £100 for postage. I've told her that unless I hear from her tonight, I will cancel her bids as she is on holiday from tomorrow.

How do I do this? I've been digging around, but can't seem to see how to do it.

Go to the bid on the item, click on the number of bids where it shows you each bidder and then i beleive there is a cancel bid option, you will have to do them for every single one

Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.
  • Also, don't forget to block that bidder!

    DHL via interparcel £20.20 (+vat) for 15kg

Message her again and explain that it will around £30.

Thanks again for all the replies. She messaged me last night saying that she has previously bought a load of books from England and it cost her around £30 to send, so I have agreed that I will wait and see how many she wins (she has already been outbid on a few) and will look around for an actual quote for her. If she is happy to pay what I come up with we will go ahead, if not then we will mutually cancel the transaction.

Thanks Brooker Dave for that info, it's really helpful

I'm going to give her the chance, and see what happens. I'm just going to ensure I send it tracked to give me that security.

It's weird, I've got loads of people from abroad interested in them, who would have thought Barbara Cartland books would be so popular :D

I wouldn't be happy with this at all, you leave yourself with potential problems. What is she doesn't want to pay the end result and fails to agree the mutual correctly If she is new to ebay she could easily mess up the mutual and lumber with you a lot of fees. She might also, as many newbies seem to think is correct, leave a neutral feedback to show that the transaction never went ahead.

Or even worse...the negs  You could probably kiss bye-bye to your ebay account if that happened.
