If your baby is happier sleeping in a Travel cot then let her! :D

My mum used an empty Chest of drawers 'draw' for me to sleep in! lol and im fine ;)

When mine where little they slept in all kinds of places, Rocker chair, Car seat, Playpen, Travel cot, (on duvet next to the washing machine:rolleyes:) lol My lap lol .. im sure your baby wont come to any harm hun, its the love, care and attention she recieves that will aftect her more imo :T

Our baby (8 weeks old) sleeps in either the car seat or her vibrating chair at the moment - it's the only place she'll truly settle and get good sleep.

I feel that as long as she is getting sleep, then that's all that matters at the moment.

li'l_p, just make sure her head doesn't droop so her chin is on her chest, it can sometimes make them stop breathing...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

She only sleeps in the car seat when we are watching her and we usually transfer her to the vibrating chair which lies quite flat anyway.

This was one of the reasons I posted the question, I know sleeping in a car seat is advised against as it can put pressure on their developing spine. I wasn't sure if there are any risks associated with sleeping in a travel cot.

I have decided to take the wooden cot down and use the travel cot based on all the replies. What a waste of cash the cot was, she was in her carrycot for 7mths as she was so small, five months on and she is out of the brand new cot!
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!
  • Hi,
There is nothing wrong with a baby sleeping in a travel cot...mine did...he hated moses basket and so i had a travel cot which i got off freecycle a new matress that didn't quite fit. What I did for safety was roll up blankets and towells to fit the gaps around the edges so he couldn't roll into and suffoctae, i then covered all with a blanket so all was smooth. He slept very comfortable and all was great.

Good luck hun...kids don't take much or cost a fortune....all they need is a bit of improvisation and commense sense....people buy half the junk because they think they should....I should know now....mother to 6 (one angel in heaven).....

I would be wary. If you fit a mattress that is not an exact fit there could be dangerous gaps at the edges and pose a suffocation risk. The mattresses that come with them aren't really supportive enough for long term use.

You could weigh up some other options regarding your room arrangements, and perhaps not rule out co-sleeping as babies often settle much better if they can sense mum nearby.

    Good luck with it!
You could perhaps buy another mattress and double it
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Has anyone found a child that likes a moses basket - mine took a strong affection for the laundry basket preferable on the kitchen floor full of dirty washing .... really a GP/health visitor should give you answers on long term risks of anything and they are the definitive answer - I kind of worked on the idea - people in caves coped ok we probably will and to be honest if you are asking the where/how sleeping question you probably don't have issues the "why will it *never* sleep" one is a bigger one:rolleyes:

Maybe it's the view he likes - can he see you from his cot compared to his travel cot, does it make it darker, cooler, more enclosed?

These would be the questions I'd be asking and trying to recreate what he likes baout the travel cot in his own cot.

Yes, I know the cavemen got along fine, but modern statistics show that sleeping babies on their backs in a cooler room with a proper mattress gives babies an even higher chance of being healthy.

I know he'll be fine in the travel cot, but will he be even better in his own cot, since you have a perfectly good cot available?

I'm another vote for if she's happy sleeping in the travel cot then let her. My dd was an horrendous sleeper as a baby, and if that's what it had taken for her (and us!) to get a decent sleep then that's where she'd have been.
She's now 12 and hitting the "can't get her out of bed" stage-thought it'd NEVER happen!:D
