Upvc Multi-lock troubles!!

I had to call out an emergency technician as my multi-lock stopped working.

It has been problematic (especially in the summer) for a while where you have to yank the handle up hard in order to allow the bolts to line up, before locking!!!!

The technician just installed a single lock as a temporary measure to allow the door to be locked. I worry of my Home Contents Insurance!!!!

It could mean a new multi point lock or a total new door and frame but there is no 24/7 upvc fitters / technicians.

Just wondered if people have had this trouble and the remedy. The technician seems to think this will be a regular occurrence as these doors gain age!!!!

I got upvc French doors installed last December. I had the same problem and couldn't lock the door. I had to call the fitters back and they just adjusted the height of the doors. Are you sure your's couldn't have been fixed the same way?

Mine were fitted 7-8 years ago and bet the fitters are LONG GONE!!!!!

In the past I have had a new cylinder (key hole) fitted and another attempt to solve the alignment issue BUT I am sure that the yanking has caused the multi locking system to break in the end!!!!

    It is so annoying!!

I had the same problem with my UPVC door which was very difficult to lock. It took a lot of force on the handle for the 5 points to engage in the frame. I messed about for hours trying to adjust the lock recesses in the frame. Eventually I fixed it by marking round the door on the frame with a pencil to make sure it was square in the frame (which it wasn't) The door can be adjusted by its hinges, you'll have to work out how because there are many different types. It now locks easily.

My landlord has said I should ring them midweek to see what is happening even though I told them that I am no longer covered for theft as I don't have multi-locking, min 3 points/levers anymore!

My tenant handbook says as I have a lock (doesn't mentioned bodged lock!) that I am priority 2 and up to 8 weeks for a repair!!!!

I have emailed my MP / Local Councillor as it is very poor that "Wed" is the earliest I can chase up my next steps to remedy!!!

I can imagine an inspection, bodge, possible tender process or something painful in my rear to get this fixed!!!

I wonder how Wed is a Priority!!!!

I suppose I have to be thankful for some kind of lock in the mean time!!!

The Door and frame had to have chunks cut out of it to accommodate the actual lock and the lever

    Errrrrrrrrrrmmm right where to start,

1, That lock is designed for a wooden door not uPVC and offers very little protection

2, The barrel (the part you put your key in) is way to big you shouldnt have any sticking out from the handle it leaves it vunrable to attack.

3, The person who "fitted" it and I use that term loosely as they havent acutally screwed the lock case to the door

you want a new mechanism fitting to that door asap, the fact your handles are just droopy does not look good to anyone who is passing and may give the door a try!
All in all a p*ss poor job, but what I have come to expect now the sooner our indusrty gets regulated the better but thats a differant story. Sorry had to rant:o
