I've never heard of a void disk. Maybe you wiped it or removed all partitions before you removed it? Try going to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management (or something along those lines, assuming you're using Windows 2000/XP/Vista).
You should see your drives - your main one which should be assigned C:, DVD drive, and also, somewhere, the USB one. If it is there, does it say there's a partition on it, or is it all free space? If it's not there, it may be a hardware problem, does the drive sound like it spins up and reads OK?

If it crossed your mind to mention what operating system you are using, others would be able to provide you with the advice you seek about drivers. (A Mac wouldn't need any drivers at all but nor would some versions of Windows.)

Since one HDD worked and one didn't, it is reasonable to suppose that the problem lies with one of the drives, rather than with the enclosure. It would also be worth checking that cables connectors are fully and correctly inserted in the sockets.

    Sorry about that!
    I'm on WinXP.
The fact that it did detect the drive when i connected it i thought would suggest that it is working, it just is a problem with the pc actually assigning it a drive letter.
    Or maybe i'm totally wrong!
