If you've got under 5s, then you probably don't need an MPV but as they grow you might need something bigger. You might well want to think about a 5 seat picasso or renault until they start at Secondary School.

That said, we have a C8 and its really practical. It has sliding doors so the kids can't open them onto other cars in car parks or at school. It has 7 full size seats that all recline/ adjust/ slide and are relatively easy to get in & out (so you can carry a huge load if you take out 5 back seats).

We got ours new via one of the scrapper websites MSE recommends, about £4k under list but on 0% finance (with 50% deposit).

A friend has a previa which has lasted them 10 years (again it has a sliding door, really useful with the kids getting in & out) & he's found it very reliable (cheap to maintain) though cost a lot to buy initially.

Ive got a C8 with 3 kids under 7 and another on the way so I will need the 6 of the 7 seats soon. I agree its not a stylish car but is hugely practical, I would have gone for the C4 grand picasso had it had sliding doors.

I do think it is a bit big/over spec'ed for doing the school run and nipping around town all the time, we get a Berlingo on holiday and that fits 3 car seats accross, is practical, cheap to buy and run so wondered if we would have been better with something like that with 3 kids - not an option for us anymore though with a 4th on the way.

a c8 is hardly; stylish, reliable or inspiring and will hold it's value worse than a footballer with two broken legs

Practical though, and a cheap second-hand buy.

We like our multipla so much that when we needed to replace our second car with something a bit bigger we got a second one - my parents also have two!

The new model is pretty bland looking as well and top of the range new one can be had for 12,800 from a broker compared with list of 18k which helps with early year depreciation.

Pluses are you get a boot, no kids in the rear crumple zone, 6 full sizes independently reclining seats (great for when our little ones fall asleep) all in less than 4m so no parking problems, minus is that extra girth can mean getting in and out with the baby seat in car parks can be tight and other love to ding the sides with their doors.
    I think....

Spot on. Even the new Galaxy has flimsy foldaway seats. I loved the look of it, but was very disappointed when we looked at one.

My DH has the new Galaxy, its a lovely car.
He has the top model the ghia & its like an aeroplane inside, overhead compartments, food & drink drop down trays, really swish.

They are beautiful, I agree (certainly much nicer than our old S-reg Galaxy). But I didn't like the fold-down back seats - that was what put me off. Apart from that, I loved it.

We have an 1.9 D Espace. Seven seats.

The five rear seats are interchangeable, all with built in seat belts

30/32 MPG around town, 45+ on a motorway run.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I flogged my 3 year old Grand Voyager Ltd XS 2.8 diesel with 20,000 on the clock last summer for £12K and it was perfect for a large family, I had 5 adults, 1 child and 2 wheelchairs in it and we wernt cramped.

It also was top speck with every extra fitted and the storage pods under the seats meant all of the space was use sensibley.
