Advice for a newby ebay buyer, bid now or wait till the last minute?

I've been looking for an item for sometime and have seen just what I want, ends in just under 4 days, do I put in maximum bid now or the starting price or wait until near the ending time. What's the best way? I don't want to lose out but I don't want to bump the price up.

Snipe it. Never bid unless you like paying more.0

Bid your max, then surf away. Don't check ebay again until after the auction is over.
You either get the item at the price you were willing to pay, or you don't. That item will be up for sale again.
I have an item that would have sold for £20 or so if I'd put it on ebay a few years ago - now I'd be lucky to get 20p for it! It was rare a few years ago and now everyone knows about ebay it's no longer rare.

This is great advice if you actually want to pay your max price. As a seller, I love people like this, but I'd never be stupid enough to do it as a buyer. It's totally !!!!!! and you will pay more than you could have got the item for if you just sniped it in the final seconds.I have an item that would have sold for £20 or so if I'd put it on ebay a few years ago - now I'd be lucky to get 20p for it!
