should I leave plusnet?

I've been with plusnet for years for broadband but am having a few problems . I am on bb premier but have recently asked to move to their newer product (sorry cant remember the name of it ) at £19.99 per month (a couple of £ cheaper than premier).

Since end of July until now, I have used 21GB peak, and 47GB off peak and have reached level 3 management and my service during peak hours is severely curtailed.

Previous months usage has been about 20gb total! Dont know why its so much higher this month.

Anyway, I wonder if anyone could recommend an isp that really does offer unlimited usage without any conditions.

I am in NI and in a non cabled area.

I am tied to BT contract for phone so its just bb I need to sort out.

Thanks

  • Plusnet have for a while now been against heavier downloaders.

As for who to go to I can't comment as I'm actually with Plusnet. :)

Yes, but what are your LLU options? That's where the best deals are to be found. I assume you are possibly on a non-LLU exchange or you would not be paying Plusnet as much as £19.99.
Your usage is massive. How can you go from 20GB to 68GB without realising it? Most people get by on 5-10GB a month, even your previous 20GB is high. Even the so-called unlimited packages still have a fair usage clause which will catch you out at that level.

    LLU operator presence

    TalkTalk (CPW):Enabled as of 04/12/2007

That seems to be the only one available.

I don't know how the usage has increased so much. I asked plusnet to check if that was actually correct but they haven't answered me yet!

My son watches south park quite often so that probably accounts for most of the 20GB I would imagine but he hasn't even been here much this month so I can't blame him for the increase.

    Thanks for the replies!

TT has a 40GB cap, but you can purchase a 'Boost' to lift this to 80GB.

  • If you look at your broadband usage on the Plusnet website, what does it say for your internet activities?

Another thing, I presume your wireless network is secure?

When you recently changed your service, you have probably started a new contract !!! could be you are tied in up to 18 months.

You need to check this, otherwise it will cost you £££s to move.
  • The £19.99 product is called Plusnet Pro and has 15GB usage.

Or is the OP on Plusnet Unlimited, which is £19.99 on a market 1 exchange? This gives unlimited downloads, but of course at that level of usage they will throttle during peak hours.
I think Plusnet Pro is a business package?
