Broker King Car Insurance Reviews

Hi Guys

I'm due my car insurance renewal next month. I used moneysupermarket to give me best quotes and BrokerKing came up top. I've never heard about this insurer before.

Just wonderning if anyone had any experience using them and how they are after sale and at claim.

here is their website http://www.brokerking.co.uk/contact.html

It's Allen and Allen (They are fairly well known as hyperformance and ESinsure).

They have been going years and are pretty well respected.

As well as taking into account the quality of the broker, you need to assess the quality of the Insurance Company they are suggesting as this could have more of an impact

When I called them yesterday just to find out who they are... guess what operators where just connecting me to other operators. No one actually gave me any answer and I had to put down the phone without any info.

That would put me off, I'm guessing that like a lot of companies they have expanded a lot recently to try and get a big market presence in the Internet market and have not adjusted to the increase in staff eg trained the new staff up fully yet
  • Sorry to high-jack this thread but I can't seem to post a new one myself yet.:(
    My bad experience with Swinton

My friend was visiting from Belgium at same time purchasing my father's car. He needed car insurance for 3 weeks. We went to Swinton. We were told we'd have to take out a 10 month policy but would be no trouble as long as we cancelled before the new month and there would be a cancellation fee of £60... £10 to Saber and £50 to Swinton. It's cost £179! for 1 month so it wasn't cheap but we had no choice (payments coming from my bank account because he had no debit card for UK).

Well the time came when we should cancel on the 3rd week. We called to cancel but was told we'd have to cancel it with the person we opened the policy with; which I thought was strange. Tired to call all that week to cancel with same story that the person was not available. Finally my friend lost his patients and said he wanted cancelled NOW. He was then told there was a cancellation fee of £165!
Not £60 like we were told. I then took the phone as my friend isn't from the UK and doesn't speak fluent English, and asked what on earth this man was talking about. He told me the same thing, I said "No we were told by An*y C**per it was going to be £60. He then said "He made a mistake" I said "that's not my problem" He then went on to say "It's your word against ours" Which it wasn't because my sister-in-law was there also and there were two other employees at the branch at the same time not preoccupied I might add. They should have corrected him if he made a mistake.
I said "were is An*y C**per? I want to speak to him." He said "He no longer works there." I said "OK, so if I come into the branch everyday then he shouldn't be there?" He then retracted that statement and said he was actually out sick. Now this man just accused me of not being truthful and he just blatantly lied. I asked to speak to their manager as he was also absent too????
I then finished that conversation by saying send me the bill and I'll sort this mess out on my return to the UK and that I'd already cancelled the direct debit.

When I returned I had two letters one saying the policy had been cancelled and the second threatening that if I didn't pay (which was now £152???) in 7 days my details would be passed to their debt collection agency! These letters were in a space of 13 days!
I write to them in complaint then I received a copy of their complaint procedure. Then I received another letter saying they were going to collect the fee of now £156.86 from my bank account in 7 days. I went to the bank and made sure the direct debit was cancelled. I also received another letter from their customer assistance team saying I needed my friends signed authorisation to put forward my complaint even though they were attempting to dip their fingers into my bank account.

So I sent the same complaint with my friends signature. Also I said if you take anything from my account while I am disputing this then that would be breach of the OFT 2003 guidance on debt collection (unfair business practices) and could also be breaching codes of practice to which they are subscribed.
And that I had complained to the Ombudsman and would also to the FSA.

That must have done the trick; I received a letter saying the debt in question had been closed. :T
Didn't receive an apology though??? Tsssssssssk
Still going to complain to their CEO (Peter Halpin) on this matter and the FSA.
  • I have recently cancelled my policy due to it being the worst service I have ever recieved-

When setting up the policy, through gocompare, I was phoned by a brokerking agent to finish the set-up-

where he proceeded to enter all my details incorrectly

After 4 or 5 weeks of repeated phone calls and paperwork being sent back and forth due to details such as the use of my vehicle, the number of seats it had (4), my profession, being repeatedly incorrect, I was then told, ''just sign the paperwork, it's correct on our system, it doesn't matter what the paperwork you have signed says'' by a very rude admin lady.

I requested that after this was all sorted they send me another batch of paperwork as during the process of having it all corrected I had obviously got several copies of things saying different things. They never sent me this fresh paperwork.

About 3 or 4 months went by and I decided to relocate to a much nicer city about 60 miles away, I had lived there before and I knew that my £85 a month policy should go down by about half as that is what I had paid previously, and now with 4 years no claims bonus it should definately be better.

I changed the address on the policy, where I was put on hold for over half a hour to do this. They then said that the insurance providers, Zurich, would not be changing the amount payable on the policy even though I was living in a much better area. To cancel the policy there would be a £120 fee.

I have since had quotes for a new policy for just £40 a month with all the extras built in, and have decided that I will pay the fee as it will pay for itself in a couple of months with the saving I am making.

I find the agents incompetent on the phone, the admin people rude, obnoxious and unfriendly, and the phone system slow and irritating.

I will not be using Broker King again and do not reccomend them to anyone, the money you think you are saving via the comparison sites is pointless after spending countless phone calls ringing them to get your basic details correct.
  • Yes they seem cheaper, but the service is horrendous!
We have waited since January for a refund on a policy that they messed up, in fact they had charged us twice. We have incured credit card charges. They promissed a cheque several times but nothing has arrived, we have rung them at least 9 times and nothing ever gets sorted.
Go elswhere, pay a bit for a better service unless you are prepared to put up with appaling service
  • I agree with some of the other posts on here. Broker King are nothing but a bunch of crooks.
I took out insurance with them after getting a quote on a price comparison site. The online purchase wouldnt go through & I was directed to phone them direct. When I did- the quote had miraculously gone up. I still took out the policy as I was in a rush but when checking my policy the wording of a certain section was different to how I had been asked the question- so not correct. It took me ages to get through on the phone but eventually I did and the operator said 'oh that will be fine'- I said hadnt he better check with the insurers direct. So he said he'd do this in the morning.
After a few days I found an email in the junk section of my email account saying that after going back to the insurers, they had declined my insurance so I was no longer covered!!
I emailed straight back & then phoned them 4 times to keep getting put on hold or cut off.
As I was going away and it was approaching 5pm on a Friday I took out another insurers policy so my house was not uncovered over the weekend.
On the monday I made 7 calls to the manager between 9 and 6pm (when of course she'd gone home!). The final answer they gave me was that they would refund £210 (£140 less than I'd paid) for an insurance policy that was not active and the insurers had refused.

Dont waste your life dealing with this company.
  • Hi guys, I have been with broker king, aka alen and alen for 1 month and I wouldnt recommend them!
Very bad service, and full of mistakes. They say one thing and do the other. Never give you a proper answer.

I have had to call about 17 times to correct information on the documents.

I only went to them because they were £40 cheaper then another company. I wish i didnt!!

It has been more hassle then its worth.
  • I've entered all the details requied in Confused.com and gaot a price of £410 p.a for my insurance.
I tried to buy online too and all I got was a phone number and the breakdown of £102 deposite and 8 installments of £42 or so. when I did phone them I was told that they needed to referer me to the insurers and the price I was given by them was far more.
I asked Broker king about the price advertisied and they told me that wasn't the price I'd get and that they don't quote monthly rates.
These are a bunch of cowboys passing you to insurers and taking a commission. The price on Confused.com only gets you interested enough to call them, but there is no product matching the price.
    I say SCAM!
  • I took out a policy with Broker King and cancelled after one month. They are horrendous!!!!
When you call them you get put through to operater after operator with no one actually helping! They say the are going to transfer and then end up cutting you off.
They say they will call you back but instead they send you a text asking you to call them on their premium rate number. You have to wait in queues and it takes numerous calls to speak to the right person.
    They just ignore email correspondance.
I would definitely avoid them at all costs!!!!
