Ok, if it is not showing up in the network connections list, it might be having issues (as mine seems to always have...)

Ask your friend to do the following:
Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.! If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Then look under network adapters, she should be able to see the LAN and the wireless card.

See if the wireless is working OK or if it is red.
  • is she running on battery mode?

No problems :) Lets just see if it fixes it ^^
  • Right i finally have the laptop sat in front of me and its a problem with the drivers with the 6TO4 Adaptor.

I did a bit of googling and came up with this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistahardware/thread/4af4def6-b7ee-4e27-ad74-620bc73135b6

Have so far tried everything and am up to the last one i now have 7 or 8 updates that wont uninstall and it is still showing the same problem in device manager.

Does anybody have any other suggestions as to what i can try?

I had a similar problem yesterday with someone's laptop that I was trying to set up. The wireless switch would only go to 'off' or 'monentary' ie switching on and off all the time, it wouldn't go to 'on'. No idea why.
I gave up and just went out and bought a wireless adaptor, it only cost £17.99. Quick and easy to install. For that price, it's not worth faffing about with the laptop for hours.
