Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing

I am very much interested in Affiliate marketing. i would say Perhaps the simplest way to explain affiliate marketing is that it is a way of making money online whereby you as a publisher are rewarded for helping a business by promoting their product, service or site. Affiliate marketing has become one of the biggest forms of advertising in the last few years. It is very easy to start once you know the affiliate marketing basics. The easiness in starting one has lead many people to start doing it and quite a large number of them have actually managed to make a living out it.0

Is anyone actually making a living out of it, having started from scratch within, say the last 2 years?
It seems all very well in theory, but only really works when your site attracts a large amounts of hits, which is the difficult bit.
Also, creating a professional looking website from scratch cheaply, in a way thats repeatable seems unlikely.0 -

Not necessarily.
Your website can attract modest number of visitors but if you choose the right niche then you can still earn good money by earning more per click or per sale as someone who gets 5x the traffic volume but less revenue.
Websites are easy. Familiarise yourself with Wordpress. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

I was making a good additional income about 5 or 6 years ago. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons I had to give up.
I have in the last couple of months started again on a small scale.
I have 5 product related sites that I update weekly with new products from merchants and 3 of them have already generated enough commission to pay their annual hosting/registration fees and the other 2 have also started earning. As we get time, we will create more sites in different categories. With the aim of each one averaging about £50- £100 per month.
Once the sites are created we probably spend an hour a week on each one updating the product information and another hour or two a month adding additional content.
My sites don't have a lot of hits at the moment, but each site has thousands of pages, which increases the prescence in the SEs. They are also all hosted on different servers, with interlinking which helps popularity.
As to creating professional looking sites, I am probably at an advantage. I am a developer and my OH is a designer, so she does the arty stuff and then I implement them using a combination of VBA for creating them and PHP/MySQL for the actual rendering.0 -

This is definitely true - one of my sites is achieving £8 per sale and another is only achieving £1.50. They have been live a similar amount of time and generated a similar number of sales. The commission rates are similar, but the big difference is that one of them generates higher value baskets than the other.0 -
I've started on doing some affiliate marketing this last couple of weeks - managed to drive a few people to my sites prior to placing any marketing links on all 6 sites.
Starting to sign up as an affiliate marketer now and place ads on my sites...hoping to make a £3-4 per day from each one to start with.

I did quite well a few years ago - started with a blog which got a few hundred hits per day and then grew it into a working full website. I've just started a new round, this time with a full site which i ripped from my previous efforts but refreshed.
Guess my point is it doesn't matter what the website looks like - create GOOD content and tidy it up as you go along and people will always come back.LBM - Dec 2012 (just under £27,000)

After reading this thread, and realising how old it was I have used an old domain name and setup a blog in the hope to gain a good amount of traffic and earn some money writing about a subject I enjoy!
I currently have three topics and I am averaging a post every two or three days. If anybody would like a look, it is in my profileI hope I haven't broken any forum rules by doing that.
Does anybody have any tips on how to get my blog off the ground? In other words how to advertise on other blogs and forums to get readers looking at my blog?
I hope somebody can help as I really want this to work! :j
Thanks.0 -
