Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing

It is an article submission site Plum, one of the largest around and basically you write articles and interact with the community there and do some back linking, which is to say let other article directories like reddit and digg know about it and you start getting views and maybe someone will buy something from an affiliate link or click on a google advert for which you will get money.
It isn't much really but after a while you will start getting more viewers and articles and it will have a snowball effect
The first link doesnt benefit me in any way, but if you wish to sign up you might as well use the 2nd referral link, it costs you nothing and the extra credit comes directly from hubpages themselves as explained here. A whole 10% of page impressions

It usually takes people about 3-6 months to start making any kind of money but from then on it becomes passive and you end up earning money for just having written it months ago, like royalties."Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck" - The Doctor.0 -
Excellent thread apart from the quarrelling.
I've got a question though is it possible to start an anonymous affiliate marketing thread (or use a pseudonom.) I have lots of ideas but don't really want my name or whois details released in the wild.0 -

You would have to post your web site address for that to happen, is this what you are planning to do?0 -

Sorry I made a typo I meant an anonymous affiliate marketing website. So I would run the website write articles perhaps release an ebook and have affiliate links all whilst keeping my identity as personal.
It is not a biggie I am just not too keen on having my name plastered all over the place. Something like 'Geordie Joe' would suit me fine if push came to the shove0 -

Ah, now I understand. I'm pretty sure you can opt to not have your details published when you register a domain. You may have to pay a little extra for that, I wouldn't know as I've never used it.
You can also register you domain through a company that can hide your details, google "domains by proxy".
Before you do this think very carefully. People will see you doing this as you hiding, and if you are hiding it's because you have a reason to hide. The first thing they will think of is "They don't want to be found when I come looking for them to get my money".
Nothing screams "scamer" louder than hidden details. And people won't trust a person who is hiding.0 -
I am currently using webs.com which allows me to design my own website with no knowledge needed regarding coding and web design. This was the first one I came accross when searching Google. Can anybody comment as to whether there are any better free web design sites. Webs occasionally has compatability issues so some of my users cannot access my site with the ISP, I am looking to use a different site, any recomendations?
Also Webs is pretty limited in the tools they provide. For instance I was looking to use "Drop down boxes" on my site but as I have no design knowledge, and webs don't provide this, I did not have this option.
I am wondering if there are any better sites which give you a wider choice of tools. If you wish in this world to advance, your merits you're bound to enhance; You must stir it and stump it, and blow your own trumpet, or trust me, you haven't a chance.0 -
Best bet is to use hosting that has Fantastico installed, this has lots of self-installing scripts. Install a blog or content management system and add themes and plugins etc from open source for free. If you need a design further to the default learn some html and modify further.0

Just dropped by my old thread to post a link that others might find useful. This is an article pblished in the Guardian so I hope the link doesn't fall foul of the link police
!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011/sep/02/how-to-build-and-monetise-a-blog
Clearly this article is highly relevent to the topic but please note that I think there is a big flaw to the plan.
The idea is of course to case study someone setting up their blog for the first time. Unfortunately this isn't going to be a realistic case study at all because the "experiment" is being carried out in the public eye. In fact the project has been linked to from the Guardian newspaper website and the article already syndicated around the net.
Obviously getting a website off the ground with this spotlight shining on you is about a million times more easy that those who are really starting from scratch. Still, I think it will be interesting to follow.
Hope those that have had a go at this are sticking at it. My little hobby sites are bubbling along nicely, still making a few hundred a month and making a nice dent on that mortgage!
PS. Re: above post. I keep my identity hidden, in the sense that I ask my host (eukhost) to opt me out of having my name/address displayed on a whois lookup. This is only applicable to personal website owners of co.uk addresses. However they can register .com addresses under their name and hold the domain so that your details don't show.
On a given site I create a believable persona that people can buy into - does this make you look like a dodgy scammer? I think that depends on what you are doing. If your site is asking people to send in their spare gold then yes, I think it will look very suspect. However a typical site I've written might be about tips on buying the best baby steriliser. Is a soon to be mum going to do a background check before sizing up my advice on the best microwavable container? I'd say not! They'll drop into the site via Google, scan through the article, click through to Amazon, they're happy and I'm a couple of pounds richer.
