I`ve been offered the same too. Have a look on line as there is something else that fixes with a better discount. It`s not for as long though, just a year.

I'm in the same situation apart from I've been offered Price Protection R3 until May 2011.

    Costs are incl of VAT

    Primary Gas 6.903p
    Secondary Gas 3.605p

    Primary Elec 23.962p
    Secondary Elec 10.565p

I feel a bit confused about this and whether to switch. I have been happy on the current cap of prices so far ending on 1 Oc 09. The letter says there is a 5.8% higher cost more than standard unit prices.

Can anyone give me some advice about this? The comparison sites have only really highlighted Pay in Advance or British Gas proctected until Apr 2010

I'm in the same position too.
You really can't read their letter without thinking you're being seriously conned: "your energy will cost 5.8% more than our Standard unit prices. That's less than £6 a month extra." So they want you to stick with them for nineteen months and admit that, at the current time, and assuming no price increases, it'll cost "less than" £114 on average for the life of the deal.

Now, you can get £62 cashback via Quidco if i switch to Scottish Power (who's Online Energy Saver 6 product is cheaper for me), or £35 amazon vouchers (via Simply Switch) or £30 cashback (via MoneySupermarket) to switch to EDF's Energy Online v.5. That cash, compared to the extra cost - means that price rises between now and May 2011 would have to be pretty high.

Hi all i am also on a price protection 17 plan with E ON that finishes on 1st October, can any one advise if i have to give them notice or do they contact me

    Hi 1618

You don't need to give us notice. We will send you a letter before the tariff ends. This will confirm the date the tariff ends and give details of a replacement product.

If you wish to take up the replacement offered you need take no action. The product will be changed over automatically.

However, you will need to contact us if you want to go onto another product. You can call us or, if you are registered with our website, change online.

I would also recommend you put your details on one of the comparison sites to see how we do.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi space rider

I think the product you're referring to is Fixonline 3. This was released last Friday.

This is different from our price protection tariffs, in that, it fixes the price for a set period. Price protection tariffs guarantee not to increase prices but will lower them should our standard rates go down.

Also, Fixonline 3 carries a cancellation fee in addition to not giving discounts on final bills should you change supplier.

As I said earlier in the thread, always best to pop your details on to a price comparison website to see how we stack up.

Hope this clarifies the tariff a little but give me a shout if you need more details. Always happy to help. :)

  • I'm in the same situation only I have £350 debit, so not sure if I am better off switching to another e-on product (will I have to pay the debit if I remain with them?) OR pay the debit off and move over to someone else.

You would only have to pay it if you change suppliers.

    Hi skellett

Space rider is absolutely right. The debt would only become due for immediate payment if you switched supplier.

You can switch to another E.ON tariff and the debt will remain on the account as it is.

Again, always best to pop your details on to a comparison site to see what is best for you.

Just remember, no discount is given on the final bill when you change supplier. This does not apply when moving to another E.ON tariff.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hello everyone,

I think that all of us who have received the "EnergySaver R1 deal letter" are being conned.

Wholesale energy prices have continued to fall over the past year. There are well-substantiated reports that gas prices could be cut by around 10% and electricity prices by 3.5%, leading to average annual savings of £96.

There do not however appear to have been any recent reductions in E.ON's tariffs. Even for those of us on fixed price deals, the small print says that if standard unit prices go down, ours will fall also.

Despite this we are being asked to pay 5.8% more from October, and not only that but to be locked in for a further 18 months.

At a time of falling energy prices and generally stable prices in the economy as a whole, I find E.ON's current proposal unacceptable. It all smacks of "corporate greed" - we should not be paying extra at all!

Subject to further postings on this thread, I am definitely minded to reject E.ON's offer and switch to the standard Save Online tariff. This will result in a small cost reduction for the time being.

    Hi pkp

Sorry to read you are unhappy with the letter offering a replacement capped tariff.

The tariff you are currently on is due to end on 1 October 2009. We need to make sure you are on a tariff for billing purposes. Therefore, we have proposed putting you on a product closest to your present agreement unless you tell us otherwise.

Prices will be higher than your existing deal but your current prices will not have changed for maybe a couple of years depending on when you signed up to Energy Saver.

As with all of our capped deals, prices are initially higher than our standard rates but are guaranteed not to be increased before the end of the deal in 2011. Although these prices will not go up, they will come down if our standard rates fall.

In no way is any of this set in stone. The letter is to alert you of the need to change your tariff and to offer a possible replacement.

It may be capped prices are no longer for you. If this is the case let us know. You can choose another of our products or change supplier at any time.

Give us a call and we will change the tariff whilst you are on the phone. Alternatively, you can switch products yourself through our website.

Should you not contact us, your account will automatically be transferred to Energy Saver R1. However, there are no cancellation fees on this tariff and you can change tariff/supplier without having to pay an exit fee. Although we do not give discounts on final bills should you change supplier.

This might be the time to pop your details on to one of the comparison sites to see how we do.

Hope this sheds a little light on to why you received the Energy Saver letter. Give me a shout if you need more info. Always happy to help.
