e-on offering us R1 deal - any good?

We got a letter from e-on this morning to say our Price Protection Deal comes to an end 1 October 2009 but they will put us on their Price Protection R1 deal which will protect us from price rises till 1 March 2011.
Is this a good deal? We have dual fuel but as we have solid fuel central heating the only gas we use is a gas hob but our electricity usage will be the same as any other couple in their 60's.
If anymore information is required please ask.
Thank you.

Most people think prices are going to be falling for the foreseeable future, and as today's British Gas news shows, a price war might be brewing. This suggests there is no need to sign up to a capped tariff. Capped tariff's like this one are normally more expensive than basic variable tariffs to start with. Go to a comparison site and find out for yourself what is best for you. Don't just take your current suppliers word.0

Hi Thursdays child
Sounds like you are on Price Protection version 17. The R1 is a replacement for this once your existing tariff expires on 1 October 2009.
Whilst on Price Protection 17 your prices will not have changed for 12 - 18 months depending on when you signed up. Therefore, the new tariff will have higher prices than version 17.
These new prices are guaranteed not to change until 1 March 2011.
If you wish to continue protecting your prices you need do nothing. You will automatically be switched to the R1 tariff on 1 October.
However, you will need to contact us if you prefer one of our other tariffs.
I would also pop your details on one of the comparison sites to see how we do.
Hope this helps. Give me a shout if you need more info.

That's right ronald208. Price Protection tariffs initially have higher prices than other products. However, these prices are guaranteed not to be increased before the end of the product.
They are not for everyone but generally suit people who want some pricing stability over a set period.
Price Protection tariffs also don't fix prices. Therefore, any price reductions that come about during the life of the product will be passed on to the customer.
Discounts on the Save Online tariff vary depending on the region.
Always best to put your details on one of the comparison sites to see how we do.
Hope this helps.

I'm in the same situation apart from I've been offered Price Protection R3 until May 2011.
Costs are incl of VAT
Primary Gas 6.903p
Secondary Gas 3.605p
Primary Elec 23.962p
Secondary Elec 10.565p
I feel a bit confused about this and whether to switch. I have been happy on the current cap of prices so far ending on 1 Oc 09. The letter says there is a 5.8% higher cost more than standard unit prices.
Can anyone give me some advice about this? The comparison sites have only really highlighted Pay in Advance or British Gas proctected until Apr 2010final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
