Hello...............Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 20th August! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Me again? Where are you N9eav - early work

Very warm and muggy morning here, am just about to jump in the shower. Plan was to go to Lakeside today to get some school bits for DD but she had a temperature last night so will see how she is in a minute.

Have some Lakeside vouchers from a while ago so if I do get there will maybe treat myself to something small but will definately have a Starbucks Frappacino.

Going to do some Gammon in the slow cooker today, will then roast it with a honey mustard glaze, will have it with mashed pots, carrots and cauliflower cheese.

Received my Economy Gastronomy cookbook yesterday - had a quick flick though and I am very pleased with it :jWell worth £9.

Anyway, best be off have a great day.

good luck to anyone awaiting a Level results today!

Feel a bit numb inside today - have an 18 yearold who should be receiving said results today....had she not had to drop out of 6th form due to severe ME. Have got fingers crossed for her best mate who is hoping to go to Sussex University. Sadly it's a long way from York!

Good morning Essex girl and everyone that follows :)

I am already at work. My bosses were both away yesterday so I was the responsible adult  I'm not sure I like that! Should be back today though.

Dinner last night was sausages and mash for OH, lentil balls and mash for me. Tonight it will be pizza - although I made the dough last night but was too tired to finish it, so left it in the fridge. I am hoping it hasn't taken the fridge over by the time I get home :)

I made these last week (I already put them on the special occassions thread, so sorry if you've already had them inflicted on you :) ) I'm hoping to do a craft fair soon as this junk is taking over my house :rotfl: If I'm organised enough and have time that is :rotfl:

I won a CD I've been after for absolutely ages on ebay last night, for much cheaper than it normally goes for (it was a limited press, only released in Germany) :) I'm too lazy for convetional retail therapy :)

Best of luck with those getting A-level results :) Our work experience student is off today to get hers, so we are all on tenterhooks here :)

Have a good day all, cel x

    Hi Guys,
I have an 18 year old getting his A levels and 17 year old getting AS. To be honest I am pleased he finished them as he has struggled so hard and was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia which hit him very badly. He very nearly had to drop out so I undertstand how anyone feels when this happens.
I have logged on tho UCAS (secretly) and he has had his college place confirmed so he must have got what he needed but of course i cant say anything.
My daughter is changing to another college and course and is going to start again as she not happy with sixth form. Its been a year for them both as ive been so unwell and Im looking forward to a new start.

I do wish the TV would show some kids getting "normal" results not the AAA and being pleased about it as its just not like that. Of course the kids do work very hard and achieve good results but the edge taken off their success by comments such as it getting easier. Mine did put in some work and im pleased that they trying their best in this difficult world

I follw the thread daily and enjoy it very much..I will post more regularly.

    Molly
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning all,

Nice day here again, yestersay was sooooooo hot, hottest one yet I think. Got dd's shirts for school yesterday in M + S £14 for 3, I tried everywhere else, but they had sold out, she will still need at least 2 more, I dont know how you mums with 3 or 4 kids do it

She also treated herself to a jumpsuit in Oasis, (only the very young can get away with them I think :D) it was £69, reduced down to £5 :T and looks lovely on her.

Sausage chips and peas for tea, nice and easy, I have a dark wash on this morning.

I have a huge amount of paperwork to do re the house sale, and I need to get that signed, so will do that this morning.

Good luck to all those waiting for results, fingers crossed xx

Ladygrim  Happy Birthday hun xx
    Happy BirthdayEmmwri xx

Celyn, thay are beautiful, such tiny detail, please excuse my ignorance, but what are they :o:o are they cakes ????

    Welcome molly xx

We are off to Taunton on Saturday for a week, so i suppose I had better start packing, we had the food delivered last night, I will take dinner for every night bar the last night, when we will eat out, and I will take breakfast and sandwiches for everyday, which should cut the cost down. And we will take a flask with us for days out.

ok, Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone!

    Happy Birthday Ladygrim and Emmwri!

patentgirl I think we must have your rain as well as our own, it looks like November outside!

(((cycling yorkie))) today must bring a lot of mixed feelings. I had ME as a child, I was younger than that, and it does really disrupt your education. Don't be too downhearted though, there will be plenty of time for her to pick up where she left off once she is finally better. I messed up my first year in uni, until that point I had been pretty much a straight A student, but I hated the course I chose and hated living in a city, so I dropped out (much to my mother's horror!), spent a year working in a pub while I got my head together, then went back to a different uni to study a different subject and got a 2:1. Ten years later I am working in a field completely different to my degree subject, but at least I got my degree!

Molly41 good luck to your two. You are quite right that straight A's are not the be all and end all. Looking back at my friends from school those who got lower grades are doing just as well as those who got straight A's, and I can't remember the last time anyone actually asked me for my A level results! They are so important when you are 18, but that soon passes...

Celyn they are gorgeous! How do you make them?

Essex girl Mmmmm Starbucks Frappaccino.... I know I should support locally owned cafes, but nothing beats a Costa IMO (no Starbucks here). Also they do teh cutest little "babycinno" (espresso cup of frothy milk dusted with chocolate with a marshmallow on the side) for 50p which my daughter adores. It is an occassional treat, but if we are having a girly day (all too rare with a husband and two sons!) then we go and have one.

Kids are going to my mum's today, so lovely peace and quiet! Need to pack for our holiday, we are off to Somerset on Saturday. We are staying in a 300 year old cottage in the middle of nowhere! Lots of activities planned including two cycle paths (one coastal and one inland), walks in woods, Cheddar Gorge, a toy museum, a traditional sweet shop which does free demos, and of course the beach! All very OS...

Hope you all have a good day x
