New Aerial Needed

Update: OK now found out that digital wideband aerial may be useful in 2012 as some of the channels 'may' switch channel frequency from say Channel 23 to 68 in which case you need a wideband one. Also come 2012 they will also crank up the digital signal which they can't at the moment because it interferes with analogue. I apparently already have a very old Group A aerial which picks up partial freeview. It's worse in summer due to leaves, inversion layer etc. So come 2012 the high powered signal might actually give me all freeview. It could just even be an upgrade of cabling that might do the job!

So my thoughts are - sky offering a deal for 6 months free sports/movies. I makes no sense to buy their freesat thing for 150 when you pay 180 for the year and get free installation and can just cancel your 2 mix package at the end of year. The only snag no E4 but this may change as freeview have paid for it to attract customers!

Ah all the stuff they don't tell you !!!!

if you already have a sky box and dish then you don't have to pay the £150 for freesat, phone 08702 404040 (not sure if this is the right no, i used it last november) they'll send you a freesat card for about £20. this will get you most of the freeview channels. no E4 though which is a bit of a bummer but i was quoted £150 to install a digital ariel and another £50 to put in a couple of extra tv sockets so i decided it wasn't worth it. and you never know, they may add it sometime, after all, film 4 is going free soon.

tip: if you get freesat the tv guide button on your remote still lists all the channels, not just the free ones, but u can add up to 50 channels to your "favourites" via the services button, then when you press tv guide , follow it by the blue button and it will just list your favourite channels.

If you subscribe to Sky and then cancel your existing card will become a freesat card. There's no need to buy a new one.

Of course i knew that sir.The discussion we were having was about freeview and not freesat.As YOU must be aware freeview offers extra channels to freesat .Freeview gives youi uk history and e4 etc where freesat does NOT unless you pay.

Does anyone have any recommendations for London fitters and the approximate cost? I am looking for a new roof installation plus 2-3 points around the house.

Hi i live in Brighton and have just got a quote for digital aerial plus splitting into three rooms and have been quoted 150 inc vat. The company was recommended by a friend that has used him.

Can anyone help /advise me please.

I've just moved into 2nd floor (top) flat. I've gone out bought a new TV however when the John Lewis electrician came to install it he said he couldn't as there was no aerial. I am aware that the previous owners had sky so they didn't need the same type of aerial.

With money being tight I'd rather not go and pay couple hundred pounds for sky and with me not being in a cable area am I right in saying I have the following options:

-pay for sky monthly package (eg with Sky sports for example.)
-get one of the companies from the cai.org.uk website to instal an aerial which looks like it'll be at least £150

-get the free from sky option where I pay one off fee of £130 and no monthly fee to sky for a range of free channels (which do not include E4, sky sports news which I would want to watch in particular on my freeview box)

-is there a DIY option, what's to stop me getting a free quote from on eof these companies, getting them to tell me what aerial i need- i can go to argos, wickes etc.. by the relvant aerial for £30-40 and getting my mate who's an electrician to fit ot for me for little cost?

-the other thing i was thinking of is that as the previous owners had sky, is ther a way i can get the free from sky option without paying £150 as their sky dish should still be on the roof, no?

-PLEASE HELP!!!!

will be cheaper though the box won't have any warranty of course

thanks for that, so all i need to do is buy the card and a standard box?
does the box come with scart sockets to connect to the aerial and the tv.

Previous owner has left us a sky aerial then all i need to do is get a box and card you say- any idea how much this would cost approximately (not from ebay.)

You've saved me loads of money as I'd have otherwise got another aerial installed. If i use the existing sky aerial am i right in saying i will not have access to the freeview channel even if i have a freeview box? What if the freeview is built into the tv?
