The RC (trial) Windows 7 is free. Should work on your old PC and should still be available if you are quick. Sorry but Vista and Windows 7 looks like the way forward for you/everyone.0

Afraid not, unless you're into hacking and stealing software!
Do you mean you're going to replace the entire computer, or just upgrade the operating system? Windows 7 is coming out in 2 months. What do you think of it? It can be obtained around the £70 mark, which isn't much more than an XP disc could be got for!Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Have you considered installing one of these instead?0

i thought W/7 free version has to be upgraded to (paid for) full version, or it shuts down your pc every 2 hours? may justbe anti MS rumours..

Disastrously for Microsoft, Vista looked like the way backwards for a large percentage of its customers.
And Windows 7 is certainly not the way forwards for those who use and prefer Apple's operating system.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

the RC is only available until today (probably got another 8 hours though to download it, as it is based upon Microsoft time), and will work til March, before it starts shutting down PC's every 2 hours.
however, i don't think it's a good recommendation, for someone who has a computer running ME, as i'm unsure that the computer itself will be a high enough spec to run it... 1gb ram is a minimum isn't it for win 7 ?
i'm running the RC in a VM in my mac, and it is better than vista...0 -
chances are that your PC wont meet the minimum requirements for XP or Win7. Linux is your best bet, try PClinuxOS or Ubuntu...
You cant get any full version (working) of windows for free.Beer meter E[.\.......]F0 -

Windows 7 apparently can run nicely on very old gear, see this link for details.
However hardware today is much cheaper than in the days the OP got his ME machine.
I wouldn't upgrade the OS only but get a new box, once 7 is released (coming soon) most manufactures will bundle it, a Dell Netbook can be yours for less than £200 delivered, it's a no brainer in my book.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!
