Yes I totally agree Maestro is a brand for Mastercard debit, with very very little consumer protection, I agree.

But what about a chargeback on a Mastercard prepaid card, how does that work.

How is it going to work when Maestro disappears soon, isssued in the UK, to be replaced by Mastercard Debit, google it and look at the images, no Maestro in sight.

In affect you have still not reading Mastercard's rules on accepting cards and processing chargebacks the merchant has no matter where the card came from as long as it was a Mastercard.

A Maestro card is not a Mastercard it is a debit card issued by Mastercard as you clearly pointed out, this is not the same as a Mastercard Debit card which is a different beast altogether.

The possible reasons for a chargeback on a Maestro card are in appendix B, but Cashplus, Caxton, Fair FX, etc. etc. are Mastercards not Maestro cards and are subject to a different set of rules. How do people get chargebacks on these???

You wont know until you read the Mastercard document, not its subset the Maestro card document. I am not confused, please read it then come back and point on the paragraph and page that back up your arguement about Mastercards, not Maestro Cards.

You'll see clearly on their front page that they are -

" The ONLY pre-paid card offering purchase protection"

You need to realise that hundreds of cards have the MASTERCARD name on them, but that is only because they have purchased a licience to use that name. They are not owned by MASTERCARD.

Have you read any of Mastercards acceptance and chargeback policy.

APS are not being nice, they are charging back. They are using the rules I am trying to point you to but you appear relucant to look at. Is this because you maybe wrong and you cannot bring youself to admit it. Try something easier, Goggle, "Mastercard chargebacks" and read peoples stories.

Do you honestly beleive that the biggest rival to Visa has no similar chargeback policy, remembering that Maestro is not a Mastercard.

How many times? Maestro is a MasterCard brand. The very style of logo makes that quite clear. It is owned by MasterCard and it is used as the current MasterCard debit platform in the UK. It is not a MasterCard Credit product, it is not a MasterCard Debit product. It is a MasterCard debit product. Issuers must be MasterCard members and receive approval from MasterCard to issue it.

To answer a previous question, my 'qualifications' are 10 years' technical experience in the payment industry, in the terminal and card supply area.

If you wish to live in ignorance then so be it, either read the document or read the cut and paste from below (the matter I am addressing relates to Mastercard Credit, Mastercard Prepaid and Mastercard Debit when it become available later this year". If you wish to discuss Maestro Chargebacks they are in appendix B of the link I posted earlier.

    Cheers

bump Maestro card is issued by Mastercard, but it is not a Mastercard persay.

In the UK, we currently have Mastercard Credit Card and Prepaid cards and they all offer the same full protection as Visa does under its Chargeback Scheme and we are about to get Mastercard Debit Carrd issued by the Clysedale bank, which is not the same thing as a a Maestro card debit card issued by Mastercard. The new Mastercard debit card that is already very popular around the world again has the same protection as an Visa Card.

    Hope this helps
