mobile for emergency use only

Hi, does anyone know what is the best mobile prepay unit to purchase for someone who would only use it for emergencies?
Sometimes the sims become disconnected when unused, and credit is lost after a certain period, so I'd be looking at the company with a payg sim with the longest duration of sim and credit through non-use.
Also, I've not looked at mobile phones for years - are they really only £15 each now plus a £10 sim?

I just got a pay as you go sim from 3 (they send them to you for free via their website) - they give you things like inclusive texts, mobile internet etc that lasts for 3 months... and the credit i put on there it has "wont expire" next to it on the online screens.... not sure if thats for all top ups or just my first one, but the fact that i can throw £10 on a simcard and have it not expire is pretty good (seeing as i would only be using the inclusive texts).

Might be worth a look, however if you need a phone as well that wont be as cheap. You could always try on ebay for one you fancy or see if a friend has one in a draw somewhere they are not using.

With virgin you can have a DD set up on your account, and they only bill you on your usage, so in theory your sim will never be disconnected, or see if you can get a old Orange "OVP sim plan" they come up on ebay every now & then.
