OK, I fancy pensioning off my museum piece of a Nokia 3310 for a Nokia 1208. I'm on ASDA Mobile.

Unlocked 1208's are £24.97 in ASDA. But a (presumably) locked Vodafone one is only about £13.

So, is there anything stopping me getting the Vodafone one, getting an unlock code for about £3, unlocking it and swapping SIMs?
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

The ASDA SIM may work without being unlocked, since they run off Vodafone. It's always worth a shot I suppose

With the Voda one do you not need to purchase a minimum £10 topup too, or is it £3 + £10 topup? Also, many retailers stock unlocked phones, ie CPW and all their subsidiaries, so you may not need to unlock.

Thanks, guys. I will have closer look at the Vodafone one. As you say, if my ASDA Mobile SIM works, it's a bonus.

I can't see how they can demand that you buy a £10 top-up - you might just be getting it for emergencies only. If they do, that could be a bit of "show-stopper".

But the basic ploy, of getting the obviously subsidised network handset, getting an unlocking code and swapping SIM cards, is sound.
